of Joomla 2.5, decompress it and install it. After that, it should
migrate all of the data from old Joomla 1.5 to the new Joomla 2.5
The steps to test it
1) Install the component in your Joomla 1.5 site.
2) Run the upgrade
* PHP 5.x
* Curl module of PHP enabled
* Joomla 1.5
* Enable System - Mootools Upgrade plugin that is included in Joomla 1.5.19 and greater.
A new tracker is created for jUpgrade and Joomla 2.5 migrations bugs. You can access (and use it) here:
If you have problems with migrations please go to Settings and set "Debug" = ON.
The way to test it:
1) remove ROOT/tmp/joomla25.zip and ROOT/tmp/size.tmp
2) remove ROOT/jupgrade directory
3) delete all j17_ tables (except j16_jupgrade_categories and j16_jupgrade_menus)
4) REMOVE OLD jUpgrade installation and install the version 2.5
5) Set "Skip download" to 'No'
6) F5 to reload the browser
7) Run upgrade
It reached the end, saying that everything was in order, however:
- Users were not imported, thus it's impossible to login
- There were some problems with sessions, because we're using memcached
But it looks promising. The installation progress is easy to follow. I would suggest using green colour coding when a step is successfully completed.
However, with a little more effort, it could set an example to migration scripts.
Templates - and a few other things not yet fully included in the migrate so the front end templates weren't fully functioning.
The previous 1.5 installation was left intact.
Had none of the problems that other reviewers have complained about and will definitely be looking out for the updates as they come along.
I'm sure that once a stable release is available this will be fixed.
I have used Matias Aguirre's jUpgrade for many sites from 1.0 to 1.5. I am very happy this is ready when 1.6 launched. I am looking forward to seeing third-party component support.
You KNOW you are going to have issues with templates for 1.6 so don't expect your paid professional templates to work without major tweaking.
But after finishing, I have access to the admin section and existing content which was my biggest concern (ie, no database problems)
This program is an EXCELLENT choice for users who want to test out the new joomla1.6!!!
It does exactly what it says, however it can use a bit more documentation. Then again, the documentation really is not needed as it is a very simple process: install and run.
The developer looks like he is very good at doing what he does, so I look forward to good things from this extension!
There needs to be more output from the extension as to what it is failing on to aid user feedback!
With the first RC of Joomla 1.6 for early adopters possibly imminent (possibly 29th November), I wonder if this extension will be ready for the occasion, or as said the author has commented, it won't be stable until 1.6 stable is released.
This version is even easier (0.4.3). It downloads and installs 1.6 for you, then ports your content.
I had a site that was timing out in 1.5, because there were too many articles. It runs pretty well in 1.6- A lifesaver for me.
I am sure it will keep getting better, too.
You should have read this before:
Note that the stable version of this component is being launched simultaneously with Joomla 1.6
Joomla 1.6 is not released yet, so how you want to have a component working if the other byproduct is still in development?
