phpGedView for Joomla! ComponentModulePluginLanguage

A component to integrate Joomla! with phpGedView, the revolutionary genealogy program which allows you to view and edit your genealogy on your website. PhpGedView has full editing capabilities, full privacy functions, can import from GEDCOM files, and supports multimedia like photos and document images. PhpGedView also simplifies the process of collaborating with others working on your family tree. Your latest genealogy information is always on your website and available for others to see.

Version 1.3 onwards is compatible with Joomla 1.5.x in native mode.

v1.4.3 is tested to be compatible with phpGedView versions:
- 4.1.6 / 4.1.7
- 4.2.0 - 4.2.2

Report

This component enable easy integration of phpgedview under your joomla site allowing your users to authenticate in via your normal joomla login. Then in phpgedview you can have privacy settings so only living peoples details can be viewed by your authenticated users.
It was very straight forward to configure once you have gedview installed. Gedview itself is a bit of learning curve to configure but that's a seperate issue and not a fault of this extension.
The extension itself largely acts a wrapper so the gedview navigation will be seperate to you joomla menu but that doesn't diminish its usefulness.

This is a wonderful extension that pulls in data from phpgedview and allows it to be used in Joomla. I love it - installs easily and works perfectly. Thank you!

Why you are voting with zero points, if it works well for you?

Easy to install and configure, and stops me having to validate two sets of credentials for people I want to see my phpgedview data. I would love it to be a bridge rather than a wrapper as mentioned by others, because some of the phpgedview charts just don't fit nicely into the available wrapper space (I suppose I could redesign my templates for my main Joomla site, but I really don't want to!)

Great job - recommended component for online genealogists!

This component does what it said. Easy installation and Good support from author. Ron Keep it up.

Couple of undefined php errors when launched with wrapper.

It would be excellent if this can do below also This would save lot of time for administrators & ease maintenance. Please try to include in next version. I am not a php developer otherwise i would have spend some time to implement these below features for this bridge.

Users Passwords sync with Joomla password instead of hard coading on componenet

Auto Genealogy Id creation for Every new user and maintain Member Genealogy ID in a field in joomla.

Auto folder creation (same as Genealogy ID) under genealogy media configured folder and defaults the user uploads to that directory.

As the 1st reviewer said, this component is more of a bridge/wrapper than a full integration. However, SourceForge project page does indicate full integration is intended in the future.

I rated this component as Excellent, not because the component/bridge/wrapper is so good, but because it lets us use PhpGedView, which is outstanding for genealogy.

This component, module, and search bot installed easily.
I had one little problem because I use shared hosting and the mySQL server is different than the website server. This bridge does not have anyplace accept that information, so the bridge would not work for me, until I created a hack. The hack is really simple and can be found at:

This is a good start if you want to include your genealogy in Joomla! Combines the great phpGedView program (which allows all registered users to contribute to your family tree) and Joomla CMS.
Unfortunately it's only a wrapper component at the moment - Won't it be great if we had a real bridge? Keep your excellent work up, Ron! And many thanks for your good job.
