Hi rawaruska,

I'm sorry you are having trouble getting your podcast feed into iTunes. Have you tried getting support at our website?

Unfortunately, I've been waiting a long time for a new version of this component.

It has worked really good using J1.5, but it's about time to move on and search for an alternative.

Can't wait any longer to migrate some old sites to J1.7.

Sent an email months ago, got a positive answer about the development of the new 1.7 version. But since then, no news about it.

What a pity, it was a cool mod.

You are absolutely right. Sorry for the delay! We're getting close to releasing an alpha of Podcast Suite 2.0, which will fully support Joomla 1.7 and 2.5.

The product is not intuitive and lacks documentation. While it is a free download, you must purchase a membership to access the documentation, forum or get support. It might be a great component, but I was not able to get it to work without the documentation.
Owner's reply

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble getting it to work, and I understand your frustration about having to pay to access the documentation. That is how we have chosen to make some money to help offset the cost of ongoing development for a component that we provide for free.

Very easy to use, works perfectly. I understood the designer's idea on not to delete an un-used file to keep the RSS working properly. But, it will be nice if we can tidy the suite up. Thanks.

This extension does as advertised and provides an easy way to add podcasts into your website with integration into iTunes. The flash player works great and the whole component makes logical sense. The only thing I wish it had was feedburner integration so I could keep up with the number of subscribers we have. Overall, awesome component though!

Great extension, and have been using for years. However, I have the need to create a 2nd iTunes podcast feed, and finding no success in doing this (per your response to Shevek below). The initial one works great, as it includes all my podcasts in a Section. Also have some podcasts in that all-inclusive Section categorized with a different Category that thought would allow me to make a seperate Podcast list and generate a new RSS feed for this for iTunes. When I create a new Menu/Podcast Suite/Podcast Feed/Feed and select my Section/Category2 and save, my Menu item on the site goes to a 500 Error page "500 - Unable to load renderer class". Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong here? I tried this on a few different sites with same setup, and get the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This Component/Module/Plugin overall is nice. Using the embedded flash player works fine. The separate articles for each item is confusing at first but you get used to it.

One problem is no community accessible forum. No way to post issues if you have them except email. A community supported/non-subscription forum might be beneficial.

Another problem I had is embedding all items in an article using the supplied flash component. Podcast's on the site are sometimes in mp3 and sometimes in wmv format. The wmv format never shows. Tried passing the MIME type in the {enclose} tag but never got it to work. My guess is it's not supported in the supplied flash component.

I then thought I'd try the jwplayer route and got it showing but unfortunately when you embed the code in the HTML field the ID tag for the div needs to be unique if you display more than one player on a page. Extending the {enclose} tag to accept more parameters that could be placed in the HTML code like you do for {filename} would make this the best solution out there.

BTW - I'm working on hacking the plugin to do this. Of course without the community supported forum I can't post the hack if/when I complete it.

Still like the component though, but I have to hand craft the index page which is what you want to avoid :)

Got this set up in minutes, and now working to link with iTunes. Would be nice if when you selected the podcast page from the module that a new window would be opened with the podcast selections.

Other than that, a snap to set up. Just make sure you create and publish a document for your file, just like in Docman so that it shows up in the list.

I had to install the plugin twice before I got it to work but now it is working it is really working well. My only issue is that I cant work out how to embed a different flash player with more control and which one to use. But maybe you guy have suggestions/instructions.

I have been using this extension for some weeks in a community radio station's website. I think it is very easy to install and relatively easy to use for the users. Nevertheless, there are two missing features in my opinion. The first one is the ability to have different feeds for each podcast category, you can only have a general feed link for all of the podcasts. The other missing feature is a different player. The current player does not enable the user to go forward or backward in the podcast you are playing.

Hi shevek,

Thanks for using the suite! It actually is possible to have separate feeds for each podcast category. Create a menu item for each feed you want. There's a parameter on the right that lets you select the category for the feed.

You can also replace the current player with whatever you want through the Parameters. The Custom HTML option lets you add in the markup you want for any other player.

I thought it was very easy to use. I'm thinking there must be a way to add content to the beginning of the podcast, even though I can't figure it out.

Once installed it was easy to set up and create the article with the podcast and embed a flash player so it can be listened to, but even though it shows it has meta data it doesn't publish the file to the feed so the feed stays empty and isn't picked up on ITunes.
Owner's reply

Hi Tagon,

Thanks for using the suite! Sometimes it takes a few moments for the feed to pick up the episode due to the caching mechanism.

Being new to owning my own webspace, using Joomla as a cms, and having never Podcasted before, I was amazed at how little work it took to get my podcast up and running and listed on iTunes!

The biggest thing I didn't recognize was setting up the "Parameters" to get all of the iTunes related XML set up.

Now that I've got a couple of podcasts up, I thought it would be nice to send through Feedburner to track my stats. I can't figure out how to incorporate the new feed URL tag into the Podcast Suite though.

Other than that - I'm amazed at how well this worked (or how well it works with someone new to all aspects)!

I'm running a Romanian Windows tutorials and news website and recently I started a new podcast, which I'm posting using this fantastic extension. I can't believe how nice it works and how much more professional my site and my show look now. Thank you developer !

This is an excellent component. It makes it extremely easy to generate iTunes compatible podcast feeds, while integrating your podcasts directly and seamlessly into your Joomla! content. What I'd like to see is integration with JoomlaWorks' amazing K2 component with an option to save the podcast episode as a K2 content item. This is just a wonderful component and I am in love with it!

Love it! Works as advertised, we love the flash player too.

Linking to the media RSS was a pain because I had to dig around the forums to find it. (Here is this link: http://yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_podcast&view=feed&format=raw)You should post this in your documentation.
Owner's reply

Thanks for using the suite! For anyone looking, you can get this from the clearly labeled "Full Feed" link produced by the module.

This has saved my life regarding podcasts with Joomla, I was trying to use the generic rss feed from a Joomla module and iTunes was having none of it, with this extension all my troubles went away.

Many thanks to the author, fantastic work.

This component is heading in the right direction and I greatly appreciate that it is freely available. I do plan to continue to use it because it does do what we need it to do but one addition that would be nice would be if you could put the {enclose} tag below a readmore line. Unless I'm missing something, when I do this, it no longer shows my podcasts as published. I would like to be able to add my podcasts to a category blog layout with intros showing but only have it show the player for the podcasted file if the user clicks read more (which means the {enclose} needs to sit below a readmore line). Other than that, no complaints.
