hwdVideoShare

- This extension requires registration to download.
Videos from third party sources such as Youtube and Google video are also supported. These third party videos slot seamlessly into the component with the rest of the uploaded media, and in most cases these videos can be played through the local video player.
The software uses the Joomla plugin manager to support a variety of additional plugins. Template plugins can be used to style the gallery with a custom theme. Language plugins can be used to translate the software. Video player plugins can be used to change the video player. Third party video plugins can be used to import videos from popular video websites. System plugins can be used to trigger useful tasks on specific video events.
Users can interact with the videos using AJAX without disturbing the video playback. They can rate, comment, report and add videos to their favourites.
The hwdVideoShare component is part of the hwdMediaShare package created by Highwood Design, which also includes hwdPhotoShare and hwdRevenueManager. hwdRevenueManager can be used to manage text, image and video adverts in hwdVideoShare.
Additional modules and plugins are available which extend the functionality of the component. Currently, our video gallery integrates with Jom Social, Community Builder, Jom Comment, JComment, Kunena Forum, JACL, Google AdSense, Longtail Video network, sh404sef and ARTIO JoomSEF, SEFAdvanced, Alpha User Points and Twitter. We have also worked with JomSocial to produce a fully integrated video plugin for their social networking component. Display video directly on users' JomSocial profile pages.
But they have worked out every single nook and cranny to ensure you run a smooth online business.
Just amazing.
Seriously, the peeps at videoshare are truly outstanding to give this away for free, but I think everyone who uses this seriously should pay their way, I cant imagine how many hours go into building something of this nature, yes It is something from Biblical texts!
You have opened up many doors for me to live the life I want, I thank you with my deepest grattitude. Thank you my friends.
I fail to understand why people don't just remove the banner from the player instead of complaining about it. The plugin is under GPLv2 so you can modify it the way you want.
totally.
Other than that this is an amazing component and if you install and all is well then great, it's only if you have issues that you have issues.
Jools
For the lack of support for basic issues I cannot rate this higher.
Overall it's a fairly easy to run extension out of the box.
I have custom groups for users and while testing I set them to only be able to access the "Front-end video gallery" and that is it but I can log in with those accounts and see options to delete / edit / unpublish the videos odd thing is Delete & Edit both report that you don't have permission to do those actions even though you can see the icons for them BUT unpublish does work it reports that the video has been un-published and it actually unpublishes the video when I check it in the backend of the site I can't figure-out how to stop everyone whos logged in from being able to unpublish any video making this worthless to me right now :-/
**Very Frustrating** seems there is a setting or something missing in the ACCESS options? or it is buried cause I've been looking it over for hours and still can't get it to stop showing those options and allowing anyone logged in to unpublish any video and I can't access the forums to post can only view topics and was unable to find this issue solved in there.
I have tried php.ini, did not work. I have tried Perl method, does not work because you have to have an older version of hwdvideoshare like 2.1.5. So how do you solve this problem?
Installation on a dedicated server is in reality the way to go. On a shared server you can only upload .flv files, even without using the conversion functionality, since my ISP deactivated file conversion due to high server loads. Should be pointed out more clearly, not only in docs, as it can save you time and disappointment.
Most annoying is the fact that you have to pay a hefty subscription fee to receive a language file other than English which is included. Highwood Design states:
The hwdVideoShare video sharing gallery is an non-commercial open source (GNU GPL) video sharing Joomla extension.
This is partly true, but only for their English speaking fans. Which is a smart decision as they located in the UK surrounded by many foreign languages. A language file is the last you expect to pay for as they are in fact often contributed by users.
Restricting private use that far is in my opinion not a smart decision. Creating non-commercial versions and charging for necessary plugins seems to be the new trend. User beware!
It is true that hwdVideoShare, like all video galleries, have server requirements that go beyond those of Joomla. We make this as clear as possible:
http://documentation.hwdmediashare.co.uk/wiki/Server_Requirements_for_hwdVideoShare
Additionally, we explicitly discuss the difficulties in running a video gallery throughout our website:
http://hwdmediashare.co.uk/friendly-warning
We discuss running hwdVideoShare on shared hosts, and have a list of shared hosting website which fully support video sharing:
http://documentation.hwdmediashare.co.uk/wiki/HwdVideoShare_Supported_Hosts
Need a language file you can't find? Just drop us an email and we'll send it to you:

Thanks for your comments. The requirements of hwdVideoShare are very important, and perhaps this reply will help other users find what they need more easily.
:)
I used it for a commercial site and worked without a glitch. Some in these reviews complain about the fact that updates are not free of charge but price is reasonable for the amount of work behind this component.
Certainly recommended.
I evaluated other video galleries for Joomla in the past and I regret not going for hwdVideoShare in the first place, as alternatives only proved to be pricey time wasters.
Not being able to post in the forum piss me off a bit, but when I bumped into any issue during my first steps I contacted the developers and they gave me a response within 24 hours, which is remarkable.
If I had to say something negative about the component is that the default template don't look sexy enough with my favourite Joomla templates. If the design was fancier I would rate it as 6 stars.
I bet that webmasters who have published harsh reviews in JED about this extension don't really understand what FREE is (this extension is both free as both free and open source), and never took the time to check if their server met the minimum requirements to run a video gallery or even read the documentation.
Kudos to the hwdVideoShare team for this great component!
