JVideo is powered by Warp's advanced video conversion, hosting, and delivery technology. You can use JVideo on your existing Joomla! website just as easily as you would any other component. The components are seamlessly embedded on your site, but the videos are not uploaded or streamed from your own server so you don't need to worry about running out of space or bandwidth as your website increases in popularity. JVideo was built for website owners and developers that want to provide a consistent, high quality video experience with Joomla. JVideo! is a complete white label solution designed to give your website an instant image boost by providing high-definition videos with your own branding, advertising, analytics, and the ability to automatically scale as your business grows.
The idea behind this extension and concept is great, and is exactly what was needed for a client project. Unfortunately there are several issues and bugs which developers will have to work through. Make sure you read other reviews as well, and you will see a pattern.
1.) Administrator Console - deleting a video is buggy. It takes several tries, and the extension will crash during the process. You'll have to perform a console sync several times for it to "take".
2.) Deleting a video is buggy period. Basically videos go into some sort of limbo where they may exist in the database, but have been removed from the server.
3.) Uploading videos doesn't work well if you have some restrictions in place. For example, my client's site has a limit of 60 seconds for a video. If you upload a video that is longer than 60 seconds, the "Upload Progress" will reach 100% and just hang there. No error message or anything helpful for the end user. I still haven't been able to work through this one as the developer hasn't replied to support requests.
4.) Unresponsive support (this is more around WarpHD than the extension, but they go hand in hand.) My client had a billing issue and it took a month to resolve. I have sent in two separate support requests and have not received a reply on either of them.
If you're up for navigating through any issues you encounter without any help, feel free to give the platform a try.
Getting through to support with JVideo and its WarpHD counterpart is impossible. It's as if there is nobody on the other end. I had to threaten legal action just to get billing invoices sent to me via email, which luckily started coming through.
I just cancelled my account with this service due to a repeated uploading error that never got a support response.
It seems that this company isn't managed very well, and that they are severely understaffed. If you are looking for a quality streaming video platform for your Joomla site, go with another service.
I don't care that the videos have to be hosted on their servers, but when their servers malfunction (as they do on EVERY upload) the support staff are no where to be found. I have had about 24 videos stuck in the que for 3 weeks now. I simply asked that the files be deleted, since the delete button on their server console is completely useless and the delete button on the Joomla admin side will cause the extension to crash. But, several emails later and still no reply, I am forced to warn others in this forum before they invest several months and dollars on this worthless operation.
You can forget about uploading more than 2 videos at a time, because chances are that at least 1 if not both will have some kind of problem. Either the sizing will be wrong, the file gets corrupt or stuck, the video never shows up, the video quality will be horrible, the audio and video will be out of sync, etc.
As you will see on their own site, this is the extent of their support: "Email Us".
They even took down the user forums, which at least had some insight.
This is really the tip of the iceberg as to the problems with this extension. If you use this and pay them money, the joke's on you.
Our apologies for the issues you were having. When we receive a support request for issues with video conversion, we can look up the specific reason the video failed, as well as provide suggestions on a codec/format/settings that are more widely supported, and we do our best to have a less than 24 hour turn around for issues.
However, after reading your review more closely, when you mentioned that the only support we had was "Email Us", I was a little confused. We have been using an improved Support Ticket system for a couple months now (which is part of the reason the forum was deprecated), but we keep most of the source code for our corporate website in an SVN repository, and apparently during a recent deployment, the header was replaced by an older version! We have since resolved that issue, and you can again find the support link on our site or by going directly to: http://www.warphd.com/support/
If there is anything we can do to win back your business, send an email directly to support@warphd.com so we can discuss it!
Oh and the fact that you are not using any of your own server space to upload/publish videos is fantastic. In this economy, I think their service is extremely affordable vs. some dedicated servers offered today.
thank you infinovision!
This is working very well of course since you use exclusively their server.
BUT:
you cannot add external videos with a simple click
you have 10gb bandwitch with the free version witch is like a joke when we talk about video streaming. Since you cannot add remote streaming, all videos will use those 10gb
we get like gb for 100$/month, witch is also like a joke since if you are willing to run a video site, 100gb is nothing too..
with this money you can rent a small dedicated server witch would do the same videos conversion but gives you a lot more bandwitch
This is the best solution in so many ways for me and my companies. We have just about converted everything we do video-wise into this system, and it works great for us.
We also like the fact that as they see changes and updates that need to be made, they get it done.
You have to upload video to their server, this may take 24 hours to have your video on your site. If you use too much bandwidth then you have to pay for it. Jvideo Player always stream from their streaming server even if you watch your video 2nd time, it doesn't cache on the PC. There are no STOP button on JVideo Player so your PC always streaming from the server even if you don't want to watch it anymore, PAUSE mode still stream as well. Can't play other videos besides from their own server, that means more bandwidth being used, and eventually you have to upgrade to pay account. You can't play video from other sources like YouTube, Google etc, that means to play video with other sources then you have to use a different Video Player (not Jvideo), that means inconsistant of Video Players on your website, one to watch YouTube, one to watch your own videos from their streaming server.
Anyway, I like the video quality, but uploading video to their Streaming Server takes time, sometimes upto 24 hrs to have it available on your website, that's just too long. Video only play in streaming mode, meaning using alot of bandwidth on the user's client side, and also using more streaming bandwidth, which will leads to pay account.
But then I wrote a mail requesting support on my problems, with no great expectations, of course. And than these guys surprised me heavily.
I recieved a support email in less than 12 hours detailing and solving all my problems just like that.
Do I have to mention that all these problems eradicated from my wrong server settings (like cURL not enabled and such).
And for those who don't understand the concept behind this great initiative, just consider video quality and optional video branding(for a relatively low monthly fee) both features not available on usual video sharing sites.
To sum it up this is a great component with strong support and if configured right works like a spell.
Thanks Paul and Matt, keep up the good work!
