This is a drop in replacement for the Joomla! core module "Related Articles", it offer the same level of features but also add thumbnails.
This Module displays other Articles that are related to the one currently being viewed. These relations are established by the Meta Keywords.
All the keywords of the current Article are searched against all the keywords of all other published Articles. For example, you may have an Article on "Breeding Parrots" and another on "Hand Raising Black Cockatoos". If you include the keyword "parrot" in both Articles, then the Related Items Module will list the "Breeding Parrots" Article when viewing "Hand Raising Black Cockatoos" and vice-versa.
Plugin Related articles with thumbnails (plg_content_relatedthumbarticles)
This plugin displays other Articles that are related to the one currently being viewed. These relations are established by the Meta Keywords or using Joomla categories.

And it doesn't display anything I don't want it to when there aren't any related articles. I like how it's smart like that. I'm still doing a bit of testing but I am really liking what I see so far. Thank you so very much!
this component do not write anything to the database except thought the standard joomla installer (and only settings). I do not find any emails from you, even Skype support is available for urgent stuff. I am sorry to hear it did not work for you
It should be an error of my environment but without support is hard to say...

Cons :
1. Does not have any option to fetch articles from other categories, too. Not just the same same category!
2. Not suitable for other languages. I use Persian Joomla, but this plugin just identify english keywords.
this is my first review. I am working on a joomla site for a while now. We updated Joomla from 1.7 to 2.5 and everything seems to work fine. We even got kept an old version of this plugin running in this 2.5 enviroment.
The problems started to occur when i updated the extension to the current version (2.5.8, i think).
Pages with custom module positions which had this module assigned to it didnt seem to load anymore. The pageload would just display a and tag without content. Once the module was unpublished the particular pages would just load fine.
We are on a shared hosting solution and access to the error logs isn't given at this time. However we had the php error reporting tell us that there were a couple of E_STRICT notices with our site but nothing that would come close to the files included by this extension.
I had to remove the extension from our Enviroment and it will stay that way until we find a better solution or this Error will be fixed.
Some clarifications are needed:
There is no support team not even "them" or "they".

2. Not a commercial company, there is no charging for any licences, support fees,
3. This GPL program is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY;
I am alone maintaining 18 extensions, and I develop for a living in java, 60hours per week are common, php is done when i have time.
and yes: you'll have to go to 2.5, Joomla 1.5 is end of life
Joomla 1.5 is what the Joomla team refer to as an LTS or Long Term Support Release. It was released in January of 2008 and has seen only minor bug fixes and security releases in nearly 4 years. The current version is 1.5.25 and support for this LTS version is set to end in April 2012. If you have not already done so, you should be strongly thinking about moving to Joomla 2.5 in the near future to ensure that you are running on the most stable, secure, and best supported Joomla platform.
I will correct in version 1.5 only security issues but wont make any per user improvements, this code is used in Joomla 1.5 and nobody complains.
What I only miss is the selection of separate categories instead of meta keywords. Hope this is coming!
If I disable this plugin, all works fine.
The server can´t resolve this open connetions... too many open
connections, and the server is slow down to crash.
this issue has been solved in version 2.5.7 of cedThumbnails

Usage is very simple, and very suitable for little e-commerce website that doesn't want to rely on cumbersome and heavy application.

I did just that in version 3.0.0 you can now use meta keyword from articles to group related items!
Tried to install the module on joomla 1.5.15. Aborted with "Requires Lagacy Plugin".

Stupid error in package xml, this module dont require legacy, I did re upload the latest version to my host. Retry version 1.2.0 it will work as expected
