The Joomla! Extensions Directory ™

AJ Article listing Module

This module lists all articles in a chosen section/category by using two drop-down menus OR a specific article eq. section/category/article by using three drop-down menus.

v3.2.1, Released 2011-04-26

* Version 3.2.1 includes a fix for a specific bug when Joomla's SEF is on (it was only triggered when certain conditions were present in some sites, so upgrading may not be requireed for sites already using version 3.2, new installations are encouraged to install the latest version).

v3.2, Released! 2011-03-31:

* Uses SEF URLs only when they're needed, taking the value provided in the Joomla! Global Configuration SEF parameter (preventing possible conflicts shown on the previous version in some Joomla configurations when SEF was deactivated).

v3.1, Released! 2010-03-24. Some of the changes on version 3.1 include:

* Support for multiple modules on a page.
* Option to hide OR show certain sections.
* Default styling if no menu ID is provided.
* Some small bug fixes.

v3.0, Released! 2009-11-27. The code has been totally rewritten. Some of the changes on version 3.0 include:

* A new 3rd navigation menu for articles (optional).
* The javascript functions were rebuilt & improved.
* Multi-Language compatibility added (en-GB included with this installation).
* Search Engine Friendly URLs added.
* Module Parameters rebuilt
* Module parameters for margins and padding.
* Go button alignment (only when using vertical layout)

Use the "Linked Menu" parameter to allow formatting on the result page. This can be done be creating a Section- or Category blog menu item (or using an existing one), setting up its parameters, then you have to provide the menu id into the "Linked Menu" parameter field. This will control the way articles are listed, 1 or 2 columns etc.

Plans for a future version include retrieving the Categories & Articles via AJAX.

* Version 2.5, 2009-10-31:
Added Horizontal or Vertical layout

I wanted write a bad review, cause the core SEF dont worked as expected. I wrote first a thread into the developers forum, but thought, that i get never an answer, cause the latest answrs were one month ago. In the meabwhile i founded another extention, that has not 100% fited my wishes, but worked like a charme. Some day i get the message from the developers forum, that the error is catched and corrected. Download new version, install, test, work, thanks, i let this one on my site;)

It was the day before a client site was to go live and at the last minute they asked for the ability to have a dropdown list to switch press release categories. After a quick search I found AJ Listing Article.

Downloaded it from the developer site and installed with no errors.

The module has lots of options and the ajax version looks great.

I had a couple of questions and the developer replied to me with in a couple of hours.

End Result, the client got the functionaility they wanted and the go live date was not delayed.

I will use this module again on other sites.

Thanks so much.

I needed an extension which I could install to assist in the navigation of a rudimentary directory. Easy to customize with or without basic template overrides. Very much looking forward to the AJAX-driven one.

Great stuff! Highly recommended.

This module is very useful to the visitor if he/she wants to navigate between articles based on section and category criteria. The nightmare for the webmaster starts when there is huge list of articles available in a particular category/section say for eg. there is a list of 200 / 300 articles available in a particular category and the user starts navigating between different articles, the list of articles is loaded everytime the user shifts between the articles therby slowing down the navigation process. Hope the author does something, otherwise this module is of great help for easy and smooth navigation.

As told in the description, we are planning a new version that retrieves Categories & Articles via AJAX. Hopefully within the next 1-2 month.

Works perfectly! I'm waiting for the added feature of article selection capability, though, as then it will be even more useful.
Great work!
Owner's reply

Thank you for the review. The article selection feature will be finished soon. We will add option to choose either section/category or section/category/article drop-down. We also have plans to make it Ajax driven.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Simple and elegant. Thank you SO much! :)

Just 2 items for the "wish list" for a future version:
- a third drop down with the Article Titles, populated from the selected Section and Category
- vertical or horizontal format selection in the parameters

Again, thanks so much for this very useful extension :)
