Global News Module

Global News will give you the most complete view of your content by grouping latest, popular, random or default ordered news either by sections or by categories. You can exclude any section/category you want, you can set it to filter the lists by the current section, and you can choose between different dynamic content layouts including the article's resizable first image.

Version Updates:
• 1.x: Show/Hide article date and "More Articles..." link. Show/Hide current article.
• 2.0: Much more flexible content layout via an html supported textarea.
• 2.1: Show/Hide article author.

For Joomla 1.5 only:
• 2.1.5: New possibilities not to limit the text and not to strip tags.

We were using the old JaNews front page module before and it became a security risk. So we needed a replacement fast!

I wish we had found Global News sooner. It is a very customizable and easy to use module. Runs fast and stable, never an issue with this module but unfortunately its only for Joomla 1.5

Joomla 2.5 is now released and 1.7 has been stable for months now.

WE NEED A 1.7 VERSION SOON!

A very good module. Almost Excellent, I have a problem with the bullets (numbers) at the bottom of each article. I dont want them to be shown and I cannot find a way to get rid of them... Somebody an idea?

i use this module and i have to say that is great.
limited
BUT i don't believe that nobody tell you in one review the true in all this years about the option "content browser"
it not working at all, even in the demo of globalnews, the content float confusedly in the top of the page. it is really a disaster.
I can not believe that since 2008 no one has said.
of course content can be used in slide, but content browser is useless

It took me all of 30 minutes to download, install and configure this module the way I wanted it. I can now show excerpts of rescue stories at random, along with titles and thumbnails, on the front page of our animal rescue organization's website to bring their visibility to the front page.

Configuration was really easy thanks to the demo page, which shows the back-end configuration settings there and lets you play with them and see what they do.

I'd give this module an excellent rating if there was an easy way to hide the underlines 1 2 3 4 etc. article count at the bottom and just show the More Articles link by itself.

If you want a simple yet highly configurable module that shows excerpts of articles in one or more categories or sections in a module block, get this one!

I love this module, it has (almost) everything I need, but it's very frustrating trying to talk to the developers.

The forum is locked, you can't register if you don't log in and you can't log in if you're not registered. Very frustrating when you are after a quick answer to a simple question.

Other than that, it can do most things out of the box and doesnt need very much coding knowlege at all.

I have used this module on several web sites with great success. Kudos to the developer who spent his time making it and offering it for free.

I have been lokking a long time for such a module:
- display section or category
- display articles with original format
- slider
- customisation
Works perfectly with IE7-8,Opera,Safari,Chrome and Firefox
Why no more support it :( ?

The module is very good but I can not use because by placing
the "high" of the image in "auto" does not work in Internet Explorer
(In Mozilla and Chrome works fine) .. add a black line
instead of the image and 80% of users use Internet Explorer
Analytic according to Google .. could correct this problem,
is important because the module is very good .. greetings coordial

There isn't a module for managing news as well as performing this.

A must have module. Using it on 3 sites. With css can be adapted to any design in a matter of minutes.
But unfortunately the project is frozen and has support and updates no more, the same as many other Vargas' projects. Can't figure out how to fix a couple of bugs, especially with disappearing text and readmore in long articles.

I really like the extensions that are completely customizable, whether you use the module parameters or editing the css or php files core extension.

Thanks a lot for your effort!

Hi there. This is my firt review for a module and its for you. This is really usefull, great module.

It helped me a lot to show my web sites more professional, and it made it happen in seconds.

The only thing that I would like to see in next version if you release "title align" option.

I couldn't find it in css too.

For example , on some pages I want to use this module as articles title index with just GN_title. It always aligns all titles to left.

Whatever thank you for this great module.

I really like this extension, it does just what I needed and is easy to use. The options give it quite a bit of flexibility.

But... some of them don't make sense - it may be a language thing, not sure - and this is mainly aimed at the 'Columns' parameter. I would like to show a 2 by 2 matrix of articles selected. Also, I can't find the d****ed CSS file - but that's really my fault...

Other than that, this is great.

I tried most all of the frontend display extensions, and actually purchased one of the commercial solutions, but wasn't happy with any of them. Few of them offered the flexibility in display and grouping articles by section and/or category, and none of them were very flexible in the formatting of the display output.

Global News solved all my problems. The ability to group and sort by section and/or category is the best out there, and the flexibility to format the display of the output using CSS and HTML through the extension's control panel is fantastic! I was able to display and format the output exactly as I wanted. I've scrapped the commercial extension that I purchased, and am now using Global News all over my site. Highly recommended!

Just what i needed right now - easy to install, configurate and use - it looks good on the frontpage, plus you can tell Global News which sections and categories to exclude. Also the fact that you can tell Global News how to order the news totally won me over.

For a guy like me that never tooses easy praises around Global News is excellent. Thank you very much!
