The intended use of this module is to randomize quotes from an existing quote file, or from a few quotes entered in the parameters section. If you need a GUI to change quotes or do anything fancy, this isn't for you. This is meant to be as simple as can be.
Note: There are two versions, one for Joomla 1.0 Native and one for Joomla 1.5 Native.

this is a great extension, and does it exactly what you want it to. it is very straightforward to install.. unlike the many others i tried out earlier.
this is the only one that worked for me, and i'm grateful that i stumbled across it.
my advice.. leave out the other quote modules and their fancy features - USE THIS ONE!

Works well for me. I had trouble with a lot of the other random quote generators causing things like database errors and mucking up the layout of a site I was working on. But this module is beautiful in it's simplicity. I couldn't get the 'Additional Quotes' to work which was a bit of a shame but apart from that it is perfect for what I needed. My only request would be to add a module suffix for easier styling. Thanks for the great work Olle!
It's not a good idea to write on a separate, external file every phrase your gonna use. Need to be more user friendly!

The whole point of the module is to not have any extra, unnecessary functionality. In order to have a database and web gui it would be more complicated and need an accompanying component. This is not what this module is intended for, there are other packages for that.

I like the spirit of this module but writing the quotes in the file is really not helping for someone that wants to manage the site from any desktop in the world. The possibility to write the quotes in the back end with a real GUI is missing. Keep working !

Great little module, just what I was looking for. Had a small problem to start with but, contacted the developer and got a very quick reply and solution.
Works as advertised!

BTW i also love the fact that it doesn't use a database, pure text!

Works fine with 1.5 -- after you edit the php file to show the correct directory for the quotes file. I have 2 copies of the module running with different quote files. One has some html markup in the quotes and it worked great.

It should automatically detect that you are using Joomla 1.5 and choose the proper directory. Just make sure you're using v1.1 of the module.

I am using Joomla 1.5 RC1. Jx Random Quote was installed very easily... however, it gave me error "No quote file found". I looked into the php file and the location was given as "/modules/quotes" I tried to change the file location to suite this code by copying it, then I again tried to alter the code to suit the location and everything. But cudn't fix it. Then I tried using the Additional quotes box. I copied the whole text of the file into this box but it shows the complete code in the front instead of 1. Am really looking forward to use this module as its only comment module available for Joomla 1.5. Please help. :)

Make sure you are using v1.1 which should find the proper path to the quote file for Joomla 1.5 as well. You also need to select the correct line ending type for you quotes. If you don't know, try them all.

This would be a great module but it need more development. As of right now there is no way to input quotes (write to the quote file) from the backend or frontend of Joomla. That would be the main feature that would make this go from an 'ok' module to a great one.
I would rather see the module be have a MySQL backbone rather than a flat file though.

If you want to enter quotes from the backend, you can use my other quote module, Jx EvaEmma, which has this ability. I will however probably release a new version of this module with that feature as well.
If you want more features and a MySQL backend you have other quote modules available for that. This module is designed to be as simple as possible without the need of any extra components or database tables.
