Installed like a charm, settings are easy, but mail isn't showing up. It's a nice componenent for emptying your mailbox. Can't wait for version 2.31.

After some coding, it works on my joomla-site. On the forum are some topics with the same problem, but no solutions.
Besides this, there are some handy featuers such as deleting "View received content" and asining an author.

This is a great component with many possible uses however it is now a commercial component and I expect a higher level of support to go with that. I purchased the component and like others on the support forums have found problems with a preferred text type not available error. While this was being resolved I thought I'd set up the CRON job advertised as a new feature and found that there were files missing from this feature in the installation. For certain types of basic email this component works really well but for me it doesn't. There is also very little comunication from the support 'team' so I don't even know whether they are investigating these issues. Basically a great product but needs some polishing before I would recommend it.

Good idea for a component which is available for the CMS Serendipity for a longer time. Installations shows problems and database errors (see other comments). The Beta version 1.1b generates database errors and doesn't work.
I recommend to wait with any installation until there is a finally v1.1 available.
btw: A commercial component should not be sold before it's working fine.

Well, I installed the first version, and it did not work for me.
The beta version worked but there are some things that really needs to be changed before you can really start using this component.
First, the mail subject just is not long enough. It should not cut off the mail subject in the joomla subject even if it is a very long subject.
Second, the retrieval of mails should go automaticly. Maybe by a plugin that does so every 10 min on the frontpage, I don't know but manually getting the mails (that is how it is done now) is not an option
And last but not least, images should be put in the content as well. Just tried to mail a image into joomla, and it just filtered it out.
Great work guys, but this really need some finetuning before it is a real usable component.

Brilliant Extension. I have used this for a church website that I have been working on. It has made it easy for users to post announcements to the site by just sending an e-mail.
As others have mentioned, the only thing missing is a Cron script or other option to auto-publish incoming e-mails to your Joomla site.
I put together a quick patch that will add this functionality to the extension.
Thanks for the great Mail2Joomla Component!

I don't know why there are high ratings for this extension. I tested it against a variety of emails, and it broke most of them.
The author uses a strip_tags() command against the emails which is very destructive to the headers and contents of the email. Especially since he uses a class from phpclasses.org that adds tags and then when he strips them, leaves extra spaces -> making compliant emails invalid.
Also for multipart emails, it always grabs the first one by default. There's no option to choose which one you want such as always text/plain or always text/html (sanitized of course).
And for emails that only have one part, it does not grab the body of the email at all b/c he's improperly using another class form phpclasses.org that treats multipart emails differently than those that are not multipart.
For me, it was unusable as downloaded, and because it was inconsistent, it took a long time to debug.

A new bèta version is out in which some of these issues have been adressed, visit http://forum.vaneldijk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=65 to download this new version.
Very good.
For future version, I would also like to agree with every point made by pmcnamara.

Installed nicely, is very simple and works on most e-mails.
It can’t retrieve the content from all e-mails and the introtext / maintext is in some cases left blank. I don’t know if it is a HTML or MIME issue.
As mentioned below the component would be even greater if we had a cron and some options to categorize the content on categories.
And futhermore; if the component upon retrieving the content from the e-mail could compare the e-mail address of the sending person with the e-mail addresses of the registered users (authors), then the new content item would be created under the right author (if the e-mail addresses match).
Keep up the very good work! :-)

Easy setup once I sorted out my mail settings. I had a customer who was emailing me content. Now she can email it to the site. Nice.

This is a great start.
First, everything in this component works as it says it will. I like that.. installed and working in under 5 minutes.
For a personal blog, this is fantastic.. I set up a "myblog@myurl.com" email address on the server.. and from my phone I can send a text message/email to my email address and get my blog items ready on the fly.
BUT I have a wish list..
1.) There needs to be some kind of cron job or automatic routine so that articles which are emailed in can be posted automatically.
2.) There needs to be a way to delete the email/article from the "viewed content" screen. Once I import the email and it gets posted, it needs to disappear from the view content screen.
3.) An option should be available to delete email from email server upon import.
4.) There needs to be a way for different articles to be submitted to different sections/categories. Towards this I'd recommend a way to set different mailboxes to different section/categories. That was, if I send an email to news@myurl.com - it goes into the news category.. but if I send an email to sports@myurl.com - it goes into the sports category. I would think that would be an easy fix/upgrade to the next release.
