The "Simple Image Rotator" module offers a simple (yet eye-candy) image rotating mechanism (or slideshow in plain English) for the Joomla! masses! It's a light-weight alternative to Flash image rotation scripts (it's only 3KB!!), which are sometimes difficult to implement and heavy regarding filesize (not to mention the EOLAS -click to activate- issues in Internet Explorer!).
The module borrows the nice effects from such scripts, but uses javascript to auto-"magically" rotate images from any given folder! It can also resize any images that exceed the rotator dimensions, set in the module parameters. Just remember you can only use one instance of the module per page. This means you cannot publish the module twice on the same page, but you can easily "copy" it in the backend to display different image sets on different pages.
It's actually a simple to use module, which adds to the overall look of your Joomla! website.
Unlike the "AJAX Header Rotator" module (also by JoomlaWorks), which uses jQuery, "Simple Image Rotator" is only 3kb in total and does not conflict with other extensions that use moo.fx or mootools (like SIG Pro, Frontpage Slideshow etc.). So, as a javascript image rotator, it will offer maximum compatibility with your other extensions.
*** USING "SIMPLE IMAGE ROTATOR" AS A FADING BANNER ROTATOR ***
We've added a nice little feature to the "Simple Image Rotator" module that really seperates it from the crowd.
What is that feature?
You can switch the module in "banner" mode and that way you can use it to rotate all published banners, defined inside Joomla's Banner Component!
Moreover, this means you can even use the default Joomla! banner component to actually CONTROL the images of the rotator, adding unique links and controlling where these links open. Now that's pretty cool, right?
See the module in action in our exclusive DEMO SITE at:
http://demo.joomlaworks.gr
Real world examples:
- The module is used in our Support Forum to rotate the banners on the top side: http://forum.joomlaworks.gr/
- JMovies uses it also to rotate banners: http://www.jmovies.eu/
The "Simple Image Rotator" module is released under the GNU/GPL license.
Enjoy!

Like everyone else said below, this is a really great extension, easy to set up and works really nicely. ONLY problem, with internet explorer it really messes up the layout of the website. I'll try to figure out how to fix it with modifying the CSS. But other than that, two thumbs up for Simple Image Rotator!
This extension is tremendous. Operates exactly as you would expect with cross fading between a selection of images (in a specified folder).
Will work with banners but cannot restrict to one client or category, therefore all banners would show. Not ideal (hence 4 stars), has great potential and is one of the best image extensions I've come across to date... and believe me, I've looked at lots!

I am using this module for rotating my banners. There were a few other extension for rotating banners but they didn't fade nicely like Simple Image Rotator.
It did take me a while to get the extension going. Like the previous reviewer, I had stacked images when i first loaded the module. I tried the below solution but my problem was the css. I had to combine the SIR css file with my template css file. I then had no problems in Firefox or IE.
The only reason for not getting 5 stars is;
1. had to make code change to get it working.
2. Would love to have a few more options regarding the banner integration. Additions that would be good are to choose banners by client ID rather than every single activated banner being used.
I know this is more a image rotator and not so much an banner image rotator. But it has a great potential to be the best banner rotator for joomla.
Thanks for the extension and keep the good work up

Have been using this for a while on different sites without an issue.
But recently noticed an issue with images being stacked vertically with a bullet point - fix was hard to find so reproduced here: the mod_jw_sir.php file line incorrectly references the style sheet this line:
+ '@import "/modules/mod_jw_sir/mod_jw_sir/mod_jw_sir.css";'
needs to be replaced with:
+ '@import "/modules/mod_jw_sir/mod_jw_sir/mod_jw_sir.css";'

I use this module on one of my websites and it does what I was looking for very well. I would like to thank the creator! What makes it better then similar extensions is that when it resizes images it retains the natural beauty of images without distorting them. Other modules resize all images to the same dimensions, causing images to look distorted. Simple Image Rotator retains the natural proportions.
I'm new to joomla and all the stuffs..well, what i can say about this image rotator is..good. It is good indeed. It works very fine and nice in rotating and sliding my imagery..just can't wait for free extension of it as a plug-in so people can put it as a sliding header or simply as a fading in-out showcase on the page..anyway,,well done! Keep up the good works!
This is a good extension.
After testing it out on 2 test sites, we came across a wierd side effect; where for
some menu options, it was perfectly ok; whilst
for some other menu options it threw a portion of the next picture right beneath the present picture. Then
for some menu options, the whole gallery of images were presented one beneath the other.
We were not able to correct this behaviour, so have opted out.
We were using Standard Template ja_purity,
and position 2 for hornav (immediately after the Top Menu ).

The best image slider i've found.
It works very fine, very light and simple to configure.
I suggest to the author to add another option (if possible) like an "transition selector" for select some simple image transition effects (actually only fade effect and it's not configurable).
Thanks for your great work!

I had been looking at Flash modules which would allow me to place a Fade In-Out swf file, but instead I can use this module with the banner option!
I can just create the flat images, upload them and let S.I.R. do all the work I would have to do in Flash! And even better, I can track the clicks in the Banner module. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

You have to dig around on the website to find the download.
Yes you do need to create a new folder but I found that really easy to do with media manager (Joomla 1.5.13).
One tip is that the alternate text for the images is set at their website but this can be changed in the module as long as you don't mind one alternate text for the images.
It took me longer to find the download than it did to set this up and have it working!
Very good extension - thanks very much to the developers for making this so easy!
Regards,
Karen
