I was looking for something like this and it works just fine. Very simple to use and to configure for a non expert like me.

The only things that I can complain:

*The Squeeze Box won't work until everything on the page is loaded.
*I'd like to see the original size of the pic when I click on it using the Squeeze Box, but I only get a resized pic.

Besides that, excelente module!

Contrary to the response to Silkweb's review below, you can't have individual links on images, just one for all of them, which is a shame because otherwise this is a great module...

I have installed this extension on the website I am managing and it perfectly works.
I believe it could be interesting if I can configure the frequency of changing the random image (for example, every day or every hour) instead of every access.

It works fine, but it has the same problem I found in all other slideshow/image modules: I can't get it show the images only on the front page!

I have been using this for a few weeks now and found it to be reliable with no issues in IE, FF or Safari. I really like the ability to exclude folders for inclusion in the search.

The only feature I would like to see added relates to the use of captions for the image. All my images have iptc captions and it would be great if these could be displayed below the random image.

Great module. Many thanks
David

Thought Id found a great solution but then the customer advised that they did not see their logo. Ran a check and discovered - does not work in IE. (My check was with 7 and 8)

I was fighting and fighting with the stock random image module. Finding this on accident was truly a blessing. Thank you for taking the time to code it and offer it for free. God bless you.

The one hitch I had is that the only file that extracted into the /tmpl folder was default.php. I had to move the others manually. But once I did, it worked like a charm.

Thanks again.

The extension works as it says however the "regular" random image that comes with Joomla works just as well and at least provides a link that you can associate with all of the images. What I was hoping for was an extension that would allow for more than one link, so each image could have a unique link.

Maybe in the next release.

Does a great job and is easy to use but, as malinow has already pointed out, two such modules on the same page cause a conflict when the image is clicked on and it attempts to invoke the Squueze Box.

I tried this module and needed some help but it appears Benjamin hasn't responded to any messages on the project forum since August 2009 and I can't find any documentation. I've gone to Simple Random Image.
Owner's reply

I'm sorry, i havn't received any messages (email) from Joomla's website about your request. You can contact me here, from this contact button if you need any help. I think that you should note the module, not the support :)

As everyone knows, i'm a volunteer and I try to put my time in order to help the other when I can. Hope you understand.

Benjamin :)

It is really great extension.

I think there is a Squeeze Box conflict because if there are more then one module with Random Image Plus or there is Squeeze Box on the page used by different module (ex. gallery) than display in "Squeeze Box" does not work.

Anyway it is cool even for one module ;-)

I was a bit skeptical after failing with the Joomla core random image but I needed a random image module and so I downloaded and installed Random Image Plus. I am very glad I did. Not only was it of course easy to install, it was also easier to use and understand than the stupid random image module that comes with Joomla.

Thank you for creating something that works :)

This is a great module. Only problem is that the squeeze box does not work on my Joomla 1.5.9 installation. When I click the thumbnail it opens the full-size picture on a new page in the same browser window. On my Joomla 1.5.15 installation it works as it should though. Has anyone else had any problems getting this to work on a Joomla 1.5.9 installation?

After trying several modules and to hack random image native module, I found this module and it fulfill all my needs. This module does what it says without any complication.

By the way I just found that to resize images without loosing image aspect ratio, you should only limit the width and not the height of the image in the module parameters. This (I don't know why) risezes the image respecting the image aspect ratio.

Well that was too easy. It just worked first go. All I wanted was a random image in my header, not a slideshow or lightboxes or any other bells and whistles. The random image module that comes with J1.5 wouldn't work but this did.
Thankyou :)

I have been looking for a way to rotate images on my header for weeks now, and this is the most simple way to display a new random image on my header every time the page refreshes. I tried several components for this application (including a flash header that would not display correctly in IE), and I even tried hard coding it into my html. Random Image Plus worked correctly the first time and I am very happy with this simple module!

To use this as a rotating header, you should make all of your images the same size and orientation, and all of the images must be stored in the same folder. Also, you have to create a module location in the proper location in your CSS (which could ba a pain if you're new to CSS and Joomla coding). Once that's done, it should take about 5 minutes to use this module.

Note that if you're looking for a constantly rotating flash header, this is not for you. But if you want something very simple to make your page look less stagnant, this is the perfect tool! Thanks so much!

This is a great module. Simple but great.

Unfortunately it does not support uppercase extensions (Like .JPG instead of .jpg).
So I cannot use this module.

Too bad!

This added the recursion, which is just what I was after. Now, my only problem is that it grabs thumbnails, stretching them to my indicated size. A pixel dimension threshold would be most appreciated.

Thanks, though!
