Simple Picture Slideshow Plugin

The bretteleben.de "Simple Picture Slideshow" plugin for Joomla 1.5 is a - as the name says - simple plugin to display a slideshow in content items. The images get faded out, this effect works with current major browsers. You decide if the slideshow starts automatically on pageload or is started by clicking a link/button in the content item.

Features:
- supports .jpg, .png und .gif
- can be aligned in your content item left, right, centered, float left or float right
- as many slideshows per content item as you want
- every sldieshow can be configured individually (Parameter Overrides)
- optional show title and/or text with every single picture (Captions)
- optional show default title/text for the whole slideshow
- optional link every single image to a different target (Links)
- optional use a default link for the whole slideshow
- option to start on pageload or click
- optional control elements (start, stop, back next, counter)
- activate/deactivate and align (left/right) every single control element

update Version: 1.5.1
- modified implementation of the onload-event in besps.js to overcome problems with extensions, overwriting the onload-event

New in Version 1.5.0:
- additional options to align the slideshow: float-left, float-right
- paragraph-tags: the plugin removes paragraph tags, directly surrounding the code
- the counter now works fine with slideshows of two images only
- fix bug in preload-URLs
- restructuring the source to prepare future updates

I have been looking for a slideshow just like this one exactly. I wanted a simple system for placing photos in a gallery. I wanted it to be able to call a whole folder for better organization. And I wanted it to be quick loading. I knew that this could be done outside of Joomla but just hadn't found it yet in Joomla. This Plugin is a godsend I just absolutely love it. I took a look at the documentation for a minute just to brief myself on how to run it and noticed that the docs are so thorough that you couldn't possibly screw it up.

I can't say it enough. I just love this product and so will my client.

Very simple to install and configure. Great results! Just be careful when inserting the code in a page and make sure you get everything right. Remember that directory and file names are case sensitive. That one caught me out for a while and had me scratching my head until I realised the error.
This is fantastic - easy to install and very effective. I'm using it for a gallery of watercolour paintings and I'm really pleased with the results.

Hi Hakael7s!

Have a look at the comments on the plugin's homepage at bretteleben.de, maybe the solution is already there. If it isn't, just post your own comment - if any possible with a link to your site - and I will have a look at it. I'm pretty sure we will get the plugin up and running.

Best regards
Andreas

It's simple to use, has all the configuration options I needed, can be styled if you know CSS and works across the main browsers.

Well done and thank you!

I used 1.2 till recently [and was very happy with it] until I noticed this upgrade which I immediately installed on 3 websites I manage. This latest version [1.5] is even better! And the author, Andreas Berger, seemingly ever present with advice and help. The plugin has a useful selection of overrides enabling more than one configurtion of the plugin to be employed. I have not found a better slideshow and only use this one. Great work Andreas! and many thanks.

This plug-in work as expected.
This is easy to use and gives very pleasing results. I did have a problem when I upgraded from 1.2.1 to 1.4.1 when it stopped working. However Andreas came back in a couple of hours with a fix and it now works fine. Thanks Andreas!

Our client needed a picture viewer to show up in the site articles, and this was the only one I found that did just that...and gave me complete control in how it is used. So far, every question I have had has been answered by Andreas in the comments on his site. The documentation is clear and concise. The only people that might have a hard time with this tool are people that are completely new and don't know much about CSS or getting around in their file systems.

I only have one complaint...that I didn't find this plugin sooner! :)

Thanks,
David

Very straightforward, but with a good range of customization parameters. The only minor issue I had in getting it to work is that the photos must be in a sub-directory under images/stories. Once I moved them there it worked like a charm. That little gem was buried a long way down in the very detailed and comprehensive installation instructions. Good documentation of the override parameters too. Well done - I think this is the best free extension for placing slideshows within articles - most of the others are modules only.

First reason to install this plugin was an excellent installation guide.

After installing nothing works but there was a great support from the developer, Andreas, who find out my problem very quickly.

It was the template theat produced the error. And with the help of Andreas now all is fine.

Thanks a lot for your fast useful help Andreas!

A very simple slideshow plugin for joomla content.

Its strength lies in the simplicity. The management of pictures will take place in joomlas mediamanager.

Thanks a lot for this!

It really help me to insert a photogallery in the article and then in the mainpage of the article.
It's simple to use, even from people that are not too pro with it.

Reccomended :)

Joomla extensions is like a candy store. Lots of sugar and not all good for you. I've wasted a lot of time trying to find this extension. It deserves an excellent rating for several reasons, it delivers what it promises, it comes with a great tutorial and if that is still not clear Andreas (brettelben.de) comes through with the greatest support. I had a problem (my error) and he took the time to look at my website and found my error.

Simple Picture Slideshow allows you to present your pictures in the content area, in a decent size and include links and captions. What more can you ask for and free. Thanks Andreas.
This slideshow is very easy to use, it's pretty and are very scalable. Simply the best!

I am amazed not only by the great slideshow, but also by the help and support Andreas have given me. I needed some extra functions which i did not have enough skills to do myselves. Asked Andreas to guide me along, and he not just guided me, he created a new file for me which included my needs. I'm blown away, doesn't get any better than this:-)

Thank you so much Andreas!
This extension is just what it promises: simple. You put your photos in a folder under stories, put the folder name in between a tiny piece of code and you're done.
I have found it works best if you drop the code in a table.
A few things to be aware of: I haven't found a way to make this work in a module position yet. You need to find your own icons for "play", "stop" etc. (which is actually pretty cool). Unless I'm missing something, you can't have several slidehows with different paremeters (size, etc).
All in all, however, this is a great little estension that you can have running in minutes.

@ecs

Just to get things right for others reading your review, I wanted to mention that - starting from version 1.3.0 - the Simple Picture Slideshow offers "Parameter Overrides", a feature that allows individual settings for every single slideshow - even when using multiple slideshows on one page.

Best regards
Andreas

This is the best, a little styling inline and perfect! You can also use it more than once in the same page, no conflicts! all this from a "simple" plugin. I'm installing it into all my clients sites, whether they have the need yet or not!

Great Thanks
