It's a minor issue, but made me waste 30 minutes as I tried to "debug" it. Once I downloaded the correct file, it ran well.
Only complaints:
a) Lack of documentation. I understand it's free, but the component doesn't even have handy tips that pop up when you mouse over them. Those help and are easy to put in. Another easy solution would be a quick start guide after you successfully install the component. Like this:
1. In PhotoMap Gallery, create a category.
2. Upload images with or without geo data.
3. Create a menu in Joomla's Menu Manager for PhotoMap Gallery.
4. It should work.
b) I can't get the profile menu at the top of a gallery to go away.
Having succeeded I want to add a note about this extension. Because this is packed with features and there isn't any documentation it's a challenge. It can be made to work.
Thanks.
I had previously downloaded the developer's hotel guide component that also looked very promising. Upon installing it however, it was very buggy and support was extremely poor. I installed this extension believing that there might be a difference in performance, but again it failed to deliver. Categories would not save. Maps wouldn't save either. It simply did not work. I went to the developer's support forum and this is what I found
I understand that developers go to great lengths and exhaust a great deal of effort to create really cool extensions that are free. However, users also use a great deal of effort to find extensions that are right for us. Free or not, your product should do what it says on the can.
Do not bother downloading this, it will only cause you frustration.
When I installed the version 1.2 it appears to be the 1.1 beta again. Some changes, but still no images. Also, the bulk upload in the back end did not work.
All in all so far a disappointment. The developer knows what he is doing (the website works well) but this component needs work.
Thank you for your review.
If you have any problem, post in forum.
Batch upload in backend works fine.
If you uninstall the component, the database will be deleted automatically.
You dont have to create a category, and create a repertory, and use ftp, and and and.
With PhotoMap Gallery it's very simple : you create a category (or subcategory) and you upload your zip file with your pictures.
As every component we can make some critics but the support is very fast in the website forum and news version will make the final touch !
Have a look about the maps with the little picture, it's really nice and usefull.
