"Very Simple Image Gallery" Plugin Popular Plugin

The "Very Simple Image Gallery" Plugin for Joomla 1.5 is a downgrade of the ingenious plugin "Simple Image Gallery" from Fotis Evangelou und George Chouliaras (www.joomlaworks.gr) back to a "Web 1.0" gallery. The modified version comes without a lightbox, the plugin shows one large image, followed by thumbnails. From the images in the referenced folder it produces thumbnails and shows them with one large picture on top. The plugin offers two different modes - with or without Javascript. With - per default - activated Javascript a click on a thumbnails switches the large image. Having Javascript deactivated in the backend, a click on a thumbnails reloads the page and shows the clicked image on top. The second mode offers a graceful fallback for visitiors with javascript disabled. Besides this it may be intentionally used if you need pageviews (PayPerView).

Version 1.4.2 - 2009-08-23
- restore support for PHP4 (broken in 1.4.1)
- improved support for UTF8
- restructuring the source to prepare future updates

Version 1.4.1
- improved support for (transparent) PNGs
- noscript-links use rel=nofollow
- restructuring the source to prepare future updates

Version 1.4.0
- additional options to align: float:left, float:right
- paragraph-tag: the plugin tries to remove direct enclosing paragraph-tags ()
- sort images alphabetic ascending or descending, sort by age (last change) ascending or descending or sort random
- the images ALT-text shows the title of the link - if links are activated
else it shows the title of a set caption (even if not activated!)
are neither links nor captions set, the filename of the image (without suffix) is shown
- set parameter "limitstart" in onPrepareContent to "0" to avoid errors when used with different content2module-extensions
- creating thumbnails supports transparent (not semitransparent) GIFs and PNGs
- fix error in switchmeta

This extension is so easy to use and the output looks great! This extension lives up to its name--very simple image gallery.

Thank you for taking the time to create a very detailed set of instructions, as a Joomla beginner, I greatly appreciate the fact that in under 15 minutes I was able to create a beautiful image gallery for my site.

A great plugin with least config possible, lightbox effect will make it complete.

Thanks
This is an easy plugin to use and is great for my purpose which is something that can be implemented quickly, easily and still looks good..

just make sure that when you reference the image in the syntax {} to use exactly the same file extension, ie .JPG or .jpg not one or the other. I was using .jpg and my captions weren't loading.. realised my images were .JPG and changed them and now working like a charm..

I can't wait for the developer to add a few more viewing styles which can easily be added into the syntax..

great work
I confess I was not sure this worked but it does and does look very nice. Besides offering a lot of options from the menu it lets you choose some more writting a bit of code with each different gallery, allosing you to have different sized galleries in your site

If you like to write content and have images within, this is one of the best ways to go - and believe me I've tried different solutions. I like the way you can set your galleries fast.

And besides all that support seems to be great. Had some trouble with the frame around the images and my template css and Andreas Berger got back to me - even during the weekend - sending me the code to get everything working. Thanks.

This is the way to go if you need a gallery. If in doubt check the galleries in my site, at www.joseantunes.com. Look for Editorial and Galeria in the top menu.

I always admire those who put a lot of thoughts into their work. The author of this plugin is no exception. Easy to install, easy use, an image by by image screen captured documentation. What more can you ask for? And it is for free. Thank you.

I liked this plug-in alot. True it was simple and had many features. I had many problems on which folders to upload and not. For some reason some folders it would let them be viewed while others it would simply complain. Though the case seemed to be size - the problem wasn't exactly in the size... the module didnt say much rather gave me a couple a numbers.

Some folders though has I hight MB worked and some that had lower didn't work. In the very end I had to search for another module!

@Ruminiki24
I'm sorry to hear that.

@all
I'm happy about everyone who reviews and rates one of my extensions. Besides of this, I encourage everybody who has problems to ask for support at bretteleben.de. It does not take more time than it takes to write a review - but it can save you time (e.g. dealing with "a couple of numbers"). I'm just a one-man show and I cannot promise to solve every problem but up till now no question remained unanswered.

Best regards
Andreas Berger

An easy and configurable way to get your images into an article. Output looks clean and uncluttered. Default options are set in the plug-in menu while overrides are allowed per included instance within the article. Assuming content editors can set up image folders and upload their own images to it, then this plug-in then makes it easy for non-expert content editors to have a gallery appear in their articles. These guys have a slew of other little image extensions and the other one I used (the CSS one) made use of the same folders which was handy.

I had an issue to begin with and the developers were very responsive and helped me to troubleshoot.

One thing that would be nice would be an optional full-screen preview button perhaps discreetly placed in the corner of the image. However, other extensions from other developers that I tried that had such an option were in other ways less appropriate to my site.

Thanks very much for developing this plug-in!

Dear bljoomla,
I must thank you for sharing your wonderfully simple gallery with the world - for free.

I've tried a couple of flash galleries but I just can't get them to work properly. Quite few of them can't event let me use ftp to upload photos to a folder and do up the gallery from there.

Your "simple" gallery does all that and works like charm. The only thing I realised is that I think the file names can't be too long or contain funny signs like this one: '.

All in all, I think you wrote a great software and because of your gallery, I am convinced that I've made the right choice to move on from wordpress + gallery, now i only need to use joomla + your plugin.

Please continue to do up great software like this for the community.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Very easy to setup and use. Although the instructions are clear, there's no example on how to get the thumbnails centered underneath the main photo as shown on the author's home page. I posted a message to the author about this, but haven't received a reply yet (that was over a week ago). And the message I left on the author's comment page requesting if he could provide an example on what specifically I could modify to get the result I was looking for, was removed.

No time for newbies, I guess...
Owner's reply

Hi bljoomla!

First: Thank´s for your suggestion about adding a sample how to align the main image. The question has already come up and has been answered in the comments at the project page, but putting it into the main content of the page is a good idea and I will do so.

Second: I haven't received an email fro you that stayed unanswered nor have I removed a comment from my site.

I've looked all over Joomla for a gallery that refreshed the page with every new photo because i want the page impressions and this is the only one that worked right of the box.

I would have given it five stars if there was a way to caption to each photo. that's the only thing missing.

I tried several image display extensions before this one. This is extremely simple to use and the end result is both attractive and friendly for the user viewing the images. I use it to display product images. I like that the developer keeps the extension simple, attractive and functional. And he seems to update it pretty regularly. Thank you for an excellent piece of engineering!
