Balance
The biggest problem is that content-pages where this plugin is inserted don't show at all in IE8, if you have set the buttons to appear "above" or "outside content". (That is not only the buttons don't show, but the WHOLE content of the page is no longer displayed.)
It only works in IE8 if the buttons are set to appear "below" the content.
Also an important feature that is still missing is the option to exclude/include articles where the plugin should appear. For example - I got my "Legal Notice" and "About" pages filed under "Uncategorized". Now on all those pages filed under "Uncategorized" show the plugin which I have no way easy way of turning off.
Other than that I gotta say - nice work!
But you are not completely there yet, so please don't stop now.
PS: I also can't find a link to some kind of forum where people can get support. (Like info on how to exclude some articles from showing the plugin). So please include some contact information where people can reach you.
Thanks!
I ended up trying every other AddThis extension around here before finally trying this one.
I constantly ran into problems with the others, partly because I run a multilingual website and partly because the other extensions simply produced errors in some browsers.
As I said the Abivia plugin is the one I settled with. However there are also some functionalities and fixes that would still make it that much better.
-The most annoying thing with bookmarks is that you have a really hard time getting them multilingual. And this plugin does not only not help you with that but actually prevents you making the bookmarks multilingual by forcing you to choose a fixed language in the parameters! Which is WORSE than the default of Addthis which simply serves you the language of your webbrowser in the popup window. What's wrong with that?
So I disabled Abivia's standard bookmarks and inserted an "original" Addthis code inside a window in the parameters of this plugin to replace the standard bookmarks of this plugin - which is a REALLY neat feature I haven't seen with any the other plugins.
(The downside of this procedure is obviously that you have to check out how to customize the original addthis code by yourself on www.addthis.com - but it is good that this plugin gives you the OPTION to do so if you wish!)
-A thing that caused me some trouble was that the bookmarks wouldn't show in the articles at first. That problem was solved however by switching the position of the plugin inside the parameters from "After Content" to "Bottom of Article Body".
-The function which is perhaps the one most people need when they look for a Joomla extension to replace their laughable original AddThis plugin is SUPERBLY solved with this plugin!
You don't want to see the Share button on your frontpage, section or category view? With this plugin you get rid of them by the push of a button! =)
-One little feature I'm missing with this plugin however is the option to add your own text directly above or below the Share button. Something like "Share this article with friends!" is encouraging people to share content so it would be really nice to see the option of adding custom text in an upcoming update!
(The plugin called "prova advanced social bookmarker" has exactly that feature but unfortunately I had various other problems with it.)
Thanks for the detailed feedback! We're going to address these issues in an upcoming release, but there's currently no schedule for when that will happen.
Note that since you're using the code from AddThis, you can add text where you want and don't have to wait for an update.
