It's hard to tell that it's working although I'd like it to report something when it runs

If you want to test that it is working, is very easy. Only check the apache log files for your domain, just after you publish a new content, and you will see that google bot access almost immediatly your sitemap or the new link.

Enter MetaMod and Amazon Associates - and kerrrr--Ching - made my 1st US sale today.
Easy enough to set up - although a forum where people could discuss solutions/approaches would be great.
