joSlider
I really like this port for Slidedeck. I was planning to use it for a site however I had the need to do direct links to the slides which wasn't going to be so straightforward with a Joomla install. In the end I went with Anythingslider which was perfect for the type of slideshow that I was doing (however wouldn't work if you wanted to do other style slides that slidedeck can do, also there currently is not an option for anythingslider for joomla 1.7).

That being said there is alot of potential for Slidedeck and Joslider. Also both are free and offer a ton of features. However you will have to pay the 99 US to Slidedeck to remove their link and add some of the more advanced features.

I will most will most certainly consider this for future sites.

Thanks for a great mod!

jDownloads
It has been a while since I have had to setup a download component for a client. From what I could gather from the JED Jdownloads seemed to offer a number of nice features so I went with that (not to say I spent a ton of time researching components).

I will say I do not regret the decision. This component continues to impress as I discover new features.
- Automation feature (this is super cool just upload folders and files through FTP, click back into the component in the joomla backend and it puts everything on your site).
- Has the content plugin features
- Full ACL controls with 1.7

Granted like almost any other component you will need to do your own styling.

Maxi Menu CK
Hat's off to Cedric!

This is an excellent module. It was perfect for our needs have have used in on several projects.

The possibilities are endless. We have been able to achieve some very cool things with this module.

If you are looking to do heavy customization you will probably need to purchase documentation, the parameters extension or both. However the pricing is very reasonable and you get alot of service for what you pay for. Let's face it the developers deserve it!

AnythingSlider
While I do agree this does module does require some CSS knowledge to implement. Also please be aware that documentation is limited on the joomla module developer's site. As an example I ran into issues with running videos. However this is totally fixable and documented but you need to go the Jquery anything slider GITHUB development page.

However with that said this has to be hands down the most powerful article slider available in Joomla. You can put anything in here. If you find a better one please let me know! I have been able to do some very cool stuff with this (which I would love to show but I don't want to violate JED rules).

I would really love to see a version for 1.7 or a road map for 2.5

The only other thing that comes close is Joslider for slidedeck. It is also is very good, however slidedeck doesn't have a good documented way to directly link to slides (at least for joomla installations). Anthingslider does allow for this. Also beware Joslider is essentially a commercial app if you want to remove the slidedeck link.
