It's the first time that somebody say us a problem like yours! And we have more than 12.000 installations... Please give us more details of your problem, if you write to our support we normally respond to everybody. In a lot of cases we find problems in the environment and NOT in the component, that is designed to be plug'n'play.

RV2 (the commercial version) does support a domain whitelist so that only emails from that domain can be used to register. RV1 will not be developed further unless others choose to add extra features (which I will happily publish).
This customer asked for a custom feature to be added that was not a part of the core functionality. We told the client that his request would require custom coding to be done and that we could offer a quote to add this functionality and he thought that customizations are free but we explained that customizations were an additional service.

Only criticism would be how to add componentheading and contentheading rather than just h1,h2,h3 etc

You can add h1,.componentheading or .contentheading for example, as the CSS Selector. You can add any CSS definition in the CSS Selector field like: #header a.slogan as another example.
