Akeeba Backup is the only Joomla! extension that's absolutely essential for me. I install it on every site I build, whether it's an important "live" site or a site where I like to try new things. You never know when a back-up could be usefull!
One lesson I learned is that, when I'm experiencing a problem with Akeeba Backup, the first thing I should do is to read the documentation. I can't remember a problem I couldn't fix using the manual - and if it couldn't be "fixed" the reason of the problem was found in the very same manual.
While Akeeba Backup Core suffices for 99% of our sites, both me and the company own a subscription to Akeeba Deluxe. The extra features are totally worth it. I love being able to back-up to Dropbox as it's the cheapest (free) way for me to make back-up to the clouds.
And the support, well it's just stellar. On the rare occasion there was a problem I couldn't fix, I submitted a ticked and the developer took the time to look at the problem, and indicated the hosting related problem - only 3 hours after submitting the ticket!
Conclusion: if you use joomla! for a site, you'll want to - nay, need to install this component!

Since my boss required me and my team to implement a newsletter component for Joomla, and we were lacking a few things in Acajoom (details, but important details for our project) we decided to give AcyMailing a shot.
We've only used the Starter version so far, but are going to purchase the commercial version really soon. We'll also be recommending this module to our customers.
Some reasons we decided to go with AcyMailing:
- tons of options for notifying admins when someone subscribes / unsubscribes
- IP-adress of subscribers is logged (essential for our project!)
- Excellent template designer.
Keep up the good work, you'll be hearing from us soon ;-)
