So a useful extension definitely. Plus the developer did a great job sorting out a conflict that occurred with another extension.
5 stars.
Quite simply, I wouldn't build a Joomla website without it. Search engine friendly URLs, meta tags, 301 redirects and so on are all crucial and so easy with this extension.
A learning curve for a novice, but you'll get there. I did.
*thumbs up*
It's commercial, so I feel some slightly better installation instructions are in order, especially for novice Joomla users. Redirecting them to reams of generic Joomla instructions (not all of which work) is just confusing.
New users: FTP the contents of the zip file to a subfolder (of your making) in tmp.
Then login to site backend as admin. Go to Extensions - Install/Uninstall - Install from Directory (adding the subfolder you created to the end of the string).
Voila.
Developers - either insist on a visible link credit, or allow people to pay to remove it. Don't hide links in the PHP code.
I would have given this 5 stars were it not for the above.
Hi, thanks for the review. We made this module (and others) available for free and have had thousands of downloads over the years. This causes us overheads with support which costs time and money....and so our only way of getting anything out of the equation is to have a link-back to our site.
We have clearly labeled the terminology in this module so it says it "hides the link", rather than actually removes it.
I take your point though, and will make the link so its not an option to remove (although you and I know that this not only makes the users site ugly but 98% of users will go into the code and remove it themselves).
Don't think this is a problem? Well it is. It's unethical. And search engines like Google can and do penalise websites for hidden links. My advice, don't use this extension unless you edit the PHP code to remove the hidden link. Thankfully, this is relatively easy to do. But it really shouldn't be there in the first place.
You brought up a good point. Many FREE extensions include a link back to their site as this one did, however, the link should not have been hidden via CSS. The new version has an option to properly disable it from the module manager.
I hope this resolves any issues you had with the module.
If you ever have an issue please feel free to contact our support team. They are more than willing to help out a fellow Joomla user.
