Rentalot Plus
I needed a reservation system for a B&B client and, after testing demos for a half a dozen components, settled on Rentalot Plus. I'm happy that I did - I had the entire reservation section of the site complete in no time. I only wish they had a forum since I wanted to run a few ideas past other users. Apparently the developers took it down due to spam, but perhaps they'll consider opening it up again to members-only.

Phoca Download
After using Phoca Gallery on many sites for years, I finally tried Phoca Download today. Like Gallery, it was easy to install, has a rich set of features, and is free! Well worth a small donation to the Phoca team if you end up using it...

Add2Home
I was hoping something like this would come along for a long time. Great work! I've tested it on my iPod Touch and it works as promised.

SobiPro Search
My client asked why their site wasn't searching their SobiPro business listings, and within seconds I came across this plugin. Another few minutes and it was installed, configured, and running perfectly. What else could one ask for?
RSEvents!Pro
I highly recommend RSEvents. I've been using it for event registration, and the new PDF ticket feature is ideal; once a payment has been processed, the customer receives a PDF file via email that can be completely customized. I ran into a few small problems, and the support was excellent... My only complaint is that the registration form can't be customized with additional fields without also buying RSForms Pro. However, that doesn't add much to the cost so I still consider RSEvents a "5 star" extension.

I have a client who wanted all of his images watermarked. Using Imgen and the associated watermark plugin made this super easy. In no time, I was able to add a custom watermark to images generated by K2, iProperty etc. I also hacked the watermark plugin code slightly to prevent the watermark from being re-sized (by default, it covers the entire image). It would be nice if there was an option to do this in the extension itself, but aside from that it's great (and free!) Thanks for a great extension :)

bo:VideoJS
I've tried many video player extensions, and this one really stands out. It's very easy to install and use, it doesn't have any kind of watermark, it seems to work perfectly in all browsers, and it's free. What more can you ask for?
Google Maps by Reumer
This is an easy-to-use yet powerful plugin to add Google Maps on your Joomla site. Even better, my client requested a small additional feature and the plugin's author added it promptly and personally emailed it to me. Highly recommended.

Images Crawler
I needed an image scroller on a new site and, after testing quite a few, settled on Images Crawler. It runs very smoothly and only takes a few minutes to set up. Out of all the scrollers I tried, it was by far the easiest to set up.

jomCDN
I've used JomCDN on a few sites now (configured with Amazon S3 and Cloudfront.) Installation sounds complicated at first, but if you follow the instructions step-by-step you'll be fine. I had a small problem on one site, and the support was excellent; corePHP adjusted a setting and then everything worked perfectly. Most importantly, it does what it says - it has dramatically improved the load time of each site I've installed it on!
EasyBlog
I've used EasyBlog on a number of sites now. It's a professional component that makes it, well, easy for people to blog! It includes everything I could ever want in a blog, and the few times when I've run into problems I was able to quickly get help in the forums. I only wish I'd given it a try earlier :)

YJ Piecemaker
I tried all of the Piecemaker extensions that are listed in the JED for Joomla 1.6 and finally settled on this one. The others all gave me one problem or another... This is the only one that I could get to work perfectly. It also loaded considerably faster on my site than the other Piecemaker extensions. Support seems excellent - I almost skipped this extension after reading an unfavourable review, but a quick look at the You Joomla forum revealed a fix for the problem a few people had reported.
Jusertube
I'm making a tabbed area with live social feeds from Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. I wanted an easy way to display my latest Youtube uploads to my channel, and this extension works perfectly. Thumbnail sizes can be set; you can control how many will be displayed; and you can control vertical or horizontal display. Also, videos can open in a lightbox. Well worth the $5!

Live Tweets
I looked at all the 1.6 compatible Twitter extensions and thought I'd give this one a try. Works perfectly, looks nice, easy to install and configure, and it's free :)

Social Media Icon Links
I had been creating custom HTML modules for all of my sites to include social media icons. I tried a few other extensions that promised to do the same thing, but gave up on them for various reasons. I stumbled upon this one recently and it does the trick perfectly. Thanks for a great (and free!) extension :)

Simple Random Quotes
I needed a random quote extension for a new Joomla 1.6 site and after reading the comments I thought I'd try this one. It installed easily, only took minutes to configure, and works as described. Highly recommended!

Version Verification Tool
Before I learned about template overrides, I made some modifications to core Joomla files in the earliest sites I built. This tool has been extremely helpful in identifying which files I modified; now I can now upgrade the early sites to the latest version of Joomla with confidence.

JComments
I investigated every comment component I could find, tested quite a few, and even bought one before settling on JComments. It's fully featured and easy to install and configure. I can't think of a single feature it's lacking!

NinjaMonials
I tried several testimonials components but this one is by far the most professional. The only feature it seems to be lacking at the moment is the ability to change the order of the testimonials (you have to do so manually via phpMyAdmin.) Hopefully that feature will be included in a future version, but I still give this 5 stars because it's easy to use and displays the testimonials in a very professional manner. Great work!
Owner's reply

Hi, yes unfortunately this was an oversight, as most people want them ordered by date submitted.

We are including sorting into the next major upgrade though.

BreezingForms
After checking out a number of free form extensions, I took the plunge and bought a subscription for BreezingForms since the demos looked stunning. At first, the setup looked a little complicated, but after playing around with a few of the sample forms I ended up having an incredible Contact Us form on my site in less than 10 minutes. There was a problem with my subscription, but after submitting a support ticket, Crosstec owner Markus e-mailed me the extension right away and also fixed my subscription. Well worth the money!
