jUpgrade
Managed to make it complete the upgrade eventually by downloading and uncompressing v1.6 manually.

The component managed to successfully upgrade anything that was connected to the core of Joomla (Articles, Users etc.) but failed miserably at migrating my template, extra components and modules.

SEBLOD
This component/module/plugin is extremely powerful - perhaps too powerful for my needs. I braved the top two reviews which claimed that this extension was hard to use and was not very well documented, only to be totally confused from the moment I installed it until about half an hour later when I uninstalled it. The extension is complicated and not very clear about what it is doing. Reading the documentation on the website was not very helpful either.

A little more time spent on user experience would make this a first class extension.

Place Here module
I used this module to display contact information and allow the user to edit it at the front-end. I added all the parts of the contact details to a section as articles. Then I could easily choose the parts to display on different pages using this module.

DJ Image Slider
I used this extension to display revolving pictures of a company with captions on their website. It was very easy, and took little time, to get it working and looking exactly as I wanted.

Superfish Dropdown Menu
This module installed without problems and functions beautifully.

Although I am not a CSS Newbie, I didn't even need to put much of those skills to use. To integrate it into my template I simply removed the "default theme" section from the CSS file included in the module.
