I tried a lot of newsletter components. This is the one that does what I want.
You publish articles in different categories. Then you decide which categories that shall be in the newsletter and how often the newsletter shall be sent. Thats it. From now on, Vemod will automatically send news from the content on your Joomla site.
Configuration took a little time to set up, but once configured, it works great.
Lots of great features in this newsletter. The users are able to choose if they want html og plain text news.
I was sad when they stopped developing this component. Now I am really happy that it is back!

First I had a fancy gallery extensions - which suddenly refused to work. Installed Phoca Gallery, and it does the job without any fuzz.
Jan is making great extensions (look up everything named "Phoca"). It seems that his programming always is clean and simple.
My wish for this component is that there should be more different ways to show the galleries. There a few, but most of them are only slight variations.

After testing several guestbooks, I decided to use Phoca Guestbook because it works without any fuzz.
You can edit the captcha tables to remove letters and numbers that are easily confused like 1/l, O/0

This is a very simple newsletter extension. It is very easy to understand. You can import and export csv address files.
The newsletters have to be created and sent manually. One great feature is you can add articles to the newsletter by clicking in a list. There is also throttling of email to prevent all your newsletters to get stuck in the recipients’ spamfilters.
If you need a simple newletter that just works, this is it.

However, I could not get it to actually send any newsletters. Development has recently been taken over by some other guys, and they seem to be working on version 2 rather than fixing version 1.
In the meantime, I recommend Communicator, which is exactly the same component - but it worked right away.

This component is easy to install and gives your site a great download area. I had do some css editing to match my site template - about time that I learn that anyway.
Sent an email to the developer and got an answer in about three hours - great support!
There is one field for allowed file types and another one for prohibited file types - but they are not connected. So you may actually end up both allowing and denying the same file type if you are not careful.
