ChronoForms
Chronoforms has been my extension of choice for adding forms for years. It's amazing how much you get for free; it's not only the whole component, but also access to a top quality support and docs (remember, for free). And if you need more, you have paid stuff available.

On the technical side, you get full control over forms: layout, behaviour, custom CSS/Javascript/PHP, integration with Joomla core components and functions, integration with many 3rd party extensions... and yes, most of it for free.

I can't thank "Greyhead" enough for providing this great component for years.

Kunena
If you're looking for a Joomla native forum solution, then there's no discussion at all: Kunena is the best choice.

I've managed forums for years, and must admit Kunena is still a bit behind other forum stand alone platforms, like phpBB or SMF, but it's making the gap narrower with every new release, and it offers something any of these platforms can't: fully native integration. Also, it's not a "new" project, as it comes from a previous one, Fireboard, which also came from an older one... so there's a lot of "forum wisdom" in this project.

It works together with many other Joomla extensions (Joomla Articles, UddeIM, Community Builder, JomSocial, Easy Social), and allows you creating interactive sites, or directly community sites.

So, if loooking for a forum for a Joomla site, check Kunena first. You won't regret.

Estimated Reading Time
The power of simplicity: it just does what's promised. Nice addition for a blog or news site. Would love to see it upgraded for 3.x :).

Google Maps by Reumer
This is a brilliant plugin. Basically it lets you get access from a GUI to most of the power of Google Maps API, by simply letting you set tons of its parameters by checking a box, filling an input box or selecting from a list.

Thank you!
Akeeba Backup
There's nothing I can say that has not been mentioned so far. This extension is one of those killing apps any other CMS out there would like to have listed in their plugins/modules/extensions directory.

Simply put, after using it for a few months you'll loose the count of how many times it saved your life, or how much time it saved you for moving sites from one server to another.

And the most amazing thing: it's free! I'm sure many people in the software industry won't be able to believe it :).
