Alphacontent is incredibly easy to set up and looks awesome! For ages I have been looking for something which is easy to set up, gives a summary with a thumbnail and Alpha Content fits the bills perfectly. By the first look, it is awesome and I am using it on http://kolkata.feastguru.com.
There are some niggling problems, however, which if fixed will make this a component amongst the best.
a) Thumbnail image size - The thumbnail images weigh as much as the original uploaded. The thumbnails should be much lower than the original size.
b) Sitemap - Xmap component just shows the section and category and not each of the content. This is a major SEO issue.
c) Tag generation - The tags are generated automatically and randomly and seem to be without any specific purpose which makes using this impossible. Perhaps, user generated tags mechanism could be introduced
d) Tag URLs - The tags generate URLs from Joomla's com_component and, therefore, your site would land up with two sets of URL and get penalized by search engines.
e) Display of Tag Search results are from Joomla's core search and therefore the display from this and the search results from Alphacontent's search are very different.
f) Search Module - Aplhacontent should have its own search module and preferably with a Ajax drop down.
g) Automatic Google Map Plugin - A mechanism could be introduced in which geographic coordinates could be entered to generate a Google Map position.
Hope these suggestions will go into making this the coolest product in this category!

The good parts first.
1. Really easy to install
2. Feature rich - user defined tags, built in commenting system, built in avatars, intuitive user interface.
3. Classy layout and fun - I love the Avatars
I really loved this component. The next part of my review will sound harsh but it is only because this component comes the closest to bridge Joomla's lack of a blog and falls just short!
Where Idoblog fails:
1. There is no Idoblog search. Serious handicap as the default Joomla search has a different URL and these are rendered without the avatars and tags.
2. Multiple sections are not possible. This is a huge drawback as there can be only one section and the categories are the user ids.
3) There is no analytics at the backend. So you have no idea how many comments or hits a particular blog has received
4) Very few plugins and modules - plugins like ratings (no joomla default and votitaly don't work in the blog mode), most commented or most viewed modules would have been really useful.
5) Documentation - the documentation is not very well laid out. There's not much info in the forums/communities

This is an awesome plugin and I would love to use it. Unfortunately, it creates a major issue if you are using this with the JA Purity template.
Instead of showing the meta data description it shows time, date, author and other irrelevant information.
This problem is ONLY with JA purity template

The feature mentioned for this extension "front-end Article Submission forms" is misleading. I thought I could create forms with which content could be uploaded by site visitors without too much hassle.
This extension merely fixes the category/section which anyway the user can change.

Owner's reply
Content Submit has never claimed to allow guests to submit articles. We're not sure why you thought CS would allow visitors/guests to do so.
Like the description says, in a very clear manner, CS creates "Front-end Article Submission Forms". How do we get any more clear than that? Why did you assume that CS would change Joomla's requirement that a user be at least an Author to submit an article?

This is such a simple plugin that it is too good to be true. Works beautifully and is so easy.
I encourage the developers to add the following:
- Rounded boxes with space for headings (in a different color) and a list where the box will have a separate color.
- Modules so that separate types of css of the same style can be added
This rocks

Joomgallery has most of the features that one could hope for and is more feature-rich than any other component that I have tried. But, there are some issues that need to be addressed:
a) The rendering in IE 6 is terrible - I have tried with JA Purity.
b)The CSS needs to ironed for people like me who do not have CSS skills
c)From the front end, users should be able to use Java upload that really would encourage usage
d)If registered users are given permissions to edit details then they should be able to edit/delete their own images.
If these issues are sorted out then clearly this would be an outstanding product

For simple redirect of URLs this plugin is as simple as it is amazing! The support too is prompt.
Just love it

This has great potential - it has a fair amount of Facebook features built in. I know its a beta version so quite a few of the features are not working.
From the front-end its easy for users. Installation is a breeze too but the control panel is a little confusing.
Wish the upload of images was working and that it was possible to create multiple communities from the same installation instead of a single one.
Can't wait for the stable version to be released so that I can implement this.
Joomunity rocks!
