This component is exactly what I wanted. But I'm afraid that in my template it isn't working as I wish. In my template (Oficina from Joomlashack) this shows up as a narrow (approx the height of one line of text high) white container for an empty article.
Given my current level of expertise with Joomla and CSS, I would attribute this to the template, not the component itself.
