I bought this component because I wanted to integrate phplist it with Virtuemart. Beside the general point of the review, this review does not apply to other the integration possibilities.
After a few days working with it this is my experience.
Negative:
Quite expensive.
No documentation at all;
No forum;
The component integrates with VM only with one phplist attribute (lets say: name). So if you use first-name and last-name this is combined and put in the phplist attribute name. If you want to address people in the newsletter only by first-name or only last-name it is not possible with phplist.
Poorly translated and fields are missing in the subscribers module translation file.
The subscriber module has a show / hide option. It works but the text is shown far out of the module. As far as I can see it has no css possibility and when you don't use show / hide the module takes a lot of space. No possibility to use a line of text before and after the input fields.
The text of the send button in the subscriber module is hard coded.
Integration on the VM checkout pages works but has a bad look.
Integration with Virtuemart uses three hacked files. With one click some files in Virtuemart are being stored safely and are replaced by the component hacked files in the Virtuemart component. The hack and un-hack works fine, however when you made changes to those files yourself (like I did in the ps_userfields) you loose your changes.
Positive:
The nice possibility to change translations in ALL the language file in the website.
Import subscribers from many other newsletter components (not tested by me due to no documentation on how to do this / set up the attributes in phplist).
Access phplist trough back-end. Just like with Extplorer.
Ajax module so subscribers stay on the page.
Installs fine and the possibility to install phplist from the back-end. Although the automatic download and install didn't work. The second option to download it first and upload install it through the component worked fine.
Pre-sales support is oke.
I have no experience with technical support yet. I raised a few tickets today and yesterday.
All together I think the component lacks of functionality and build-quality you get. Not good usable for the reason why I have bought it. To many hick-ups, no documentation. It took me many hours to find things out and improve things.
Kind regards,
Marcel
