AutoTweet NG
I was eagerly waiting for the J1.7 version of Auto Tweet NG and there it is.

Easy to install, easy to set up, works as described.

One suggestion, though: would be nice to have an option to choose the URL-shortener (or even no shortening for Facebook).

therweise great, highly recommended.

This extension is really great! It helped reducing our pageload by about 25%, which is great, because broadband is not always and everywhere available (this is true for most internet users, actually).
And it has an advantage to JFinalizer: it can exclude Javascript-files from beeing processed.

That way, one can still use the crappy MooTools, if one must (we do *sigh* - when will Joomla finally get rid of it?), while still compressing the rest of the CSS and Javascript.

But of course, also this extension can't do magic: you will still have a lot to do optimizing your page (enabling GZIP in Joomla-config and/or .htaccess), rezising images, clean up messy CSS-files...
And also some (poorly designed) 3rd-party modules will not be handled by CssJsCompress, because they are called afterwards, directly in the body (also crap, but happens).

A good compagnion for this extension is "ContentOptimizer", which reduces the size of images on-the-fly.

JTweet
Hi,

after trying all other modules, this seems best. But I have two suggestion for improvement:

- if one chooses query mode, the entered search terms should querieded as OR not AND

That would allow to display a morebroad stream of tweets.

- the module stops working, when another plugin has already loaded JQuery.

This is concerning, because a lot of other plugins do so and it is a pain to figure out, when JTweet stops working on article pages. This should really be improved, it is a major disadvantage.

Overall, it is still the best of all other modules.

Thanks for your review. The module only stops working if the other module includes the jQuery library. We created the JB LIbrary plugin to avoid conflicts but it doesnt prevent other developers from creating conflicts by including a reference to the jQuery library and not providing the option to turn it off.

Trackback for articles
Hi,

finally, someone wrote a great simple extension for trackbacks in Joomla - this should become part of the core!

Mini FrontPage
Hi,

this is really a great module, we have installed it on our non-profit campaignign site.
This module should really become stadard for future Joomla-versions!

But I would make two suggestions:

1. Selection of images to show on frontpage
2. Possibility of show videos embedded in article on the frontpage

CodeCitation
Hi,

First of all: thank you for the long-time awaited feature of inserting code with a simple tag.

But there are some things, that I believe should be corrected:

1. URLs within the code are stripped, when it is the same URL as the Joomla-installation.

2. Why are the clipboard-buttos in Flash??? Could it be please plain HTML like in Joomlers Highlighter? Furtherore, when displaying, the code is sometimes overlapped by the flash-buttons, which is ugly.

Well, but besides that, it is a real advantage of having a custm tag for inserting code!

Hello, Ricardo.

Regarding your issues:
1. We did not see this behaviour. Please contact us at support@smartsoftwarebits.com and explain the case with examples. At the moment we assume it is not related to the plugin itself.
2. The buttun is in flash just because this is part of the SyntaxHighlighter engine. And we have no intention at the moment to rewrite or modify another project's code.

Anyway, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards, Konstantin.

JoomlaPetition
Hi,

to be fair, I am happy, that there is even one component offering petition functionality.

Unfortunately, the component has some issues: parts of the language is hardcoded into the components script files.

Another really disadvantage: it is not easliy possible to customize the fields.

So, this two major disadvantages should be fixed.

Looking forward to the development of this component!

Best regards,
