JoomlaWatch
If you care at all about quantifying your traffic (and who doesn't) then I cannot recommend this extension enough.

Installing is a little more complicated than many extensions. In fact, any extension download that tells you to "unzip first" means that you're should be a Joomla expert, but if so, then the process is otherwise rather straightforward.

I have found this to be a good complement to Google Analytics, even with Google's new real time tracking. However, you do need to be careful about how much data you want to track, because Joomlawatch will make your database bloat up something huge. This becomes an issue with migration and upgrades, which in this case, are still anything but intuitive. Knowledge of MySQL is essential.

Nice work, though. I can't recommend enough.

Easy File Uploader
I installed it effortlessly and go it to work, but I can't use this extension because it does not provide the ability to apply a style suffix. If that's important to you, then keep looking.

JComments
Love this extension. It installs easily and it even seamlessly imported comments from another comments component. Users had no problem using it. Unfortunately, I'm upgrading my site now to 1.7, and it's not compatible. I hate to leave it behind.

AceSearch
Among the easiest of any major extension to install and configure I've yet to encounter, especially considering what it brings to the table.

This isn't working for me. Installed and activated, but since there is no documentation, I wasn't sure which URL I'm supposed to use -- the full embed code or just the basic URL. If the latter, it didn't work for me. Didn't give it one star only because it's free. Sorry.

Mobile
This extension is a huge step in the right direction, but I take away points because it still requires some major CSS tweaking to make a fully featured site work on an iPhone. I have some features, such as image slide shows, that completely break the iPhone layouts.

This would work great, I suppose, with relatively simple sites or blogs, but it does hobble full Joomla installations.

I'm looking forward to future versions. It's definitely the best solution available in this category.

Thanks for your feedback roadsider. Following Joomla!, we are focusing on a high performance and stable core, which would be expanded with extensions. This, as you say, is aimed to provide solution for relatively simple sites. Once we achieve this, we will introduce Mobile extensions to mobilize more complex Joomla! sites.

The Ultimate Social Bookmarking Plugin
This extension works as promised, but as some of the other posters have already reported, it has very limited layout options, which can cause some major problems with the way an article looks on the page.

It really bothers me that the row of icons will appear ABOVE any "read more" link you might have. And yes, putting the big Digg icon at the top right completely interferes with any right-wrapped images. And there is no way to stop this except to completely turn it off.

Hi roadsider. As described in the documentation, the layout of this plugin is much more flexible than any other plugin available. Everything is extremely flexible. You can place every button at either the Top or Bottom position. These both have custom div classes with an included CSS file so you can float it left or right, or create any styling you wish for any layout.

Each button (there are over 60 implemented and ready for you to use) can be enabled or disabled through the XML file and set to either position in any order you wish. If you don't like the big Digg button then use the small one. If you don't want it up top then move it to the bottom. If you don't want it floating right, float it left, or leave it above the content.

As far as you being bothered by the buttons appearing above the Read More link, that's a limitation of Joomla. A content plugin can only manipulate content within an article, and Joomla places the Read More link after the article after the plugins are run.

It sounds like you're not looking for a plugin at all, you'd probably be better off using a module so you can place it somewhere else on your page.

I bought the full version, and so far I've used it a handful of times in the past month, but never to do any serious work. I find the program difficult to use on an iPhone and buggy. Keep in mind, that you have to edit content in code, i.e., manually inserting the html. Also, you do not have access to any content in the modules or the components. You cannot turn plugins on or off. You are mainly limited to edits to body content and enabling or disabling users and editing their passwords.

And I'm not sure I can blame the app just yet, but for some reason, I only see my own account (out of 2500). The others are not showing. At one point, I was trying to see the category list from one website and the App kept taking me to the other installation I had enabled. I had to restart the app.

Is $10 too much? It is if you don't get much value for the money or don't use the app at all. This app, in my estimation, would be good for someone on the road all the time with NO access to their laptop and/or the internet. It's also an excellent proof of concept.

If you're bathing in wifi already and carry your laptop with you everywhere, then take the $10 and buy a couple of lattes at the coffee shop where you do your work.

While I love the idea of this and looked forward with great anticipation of seeing it work, I'm sorry to report that it doesn't.

I posted a comment and question at the author's site and haven't received an answer after a week.

Automatically Generated Menu
This module installed with ease and immediately started to work as advertised. However there are a MAJOR shortfall.

Selecting link by category defaults to the Joomla category blog layout default with no way of customizing. If you do not mind having your category blog layout as big article on top with two columns underneath with NO category description, then this module is for you.

Also, the developer's site has no forum for raising questions. The rest of the site is in Czech.

JoomGallery
The promise of this extension -- as with many Joomla extensions -- simply does not manifest itself in practice. It's a fine idea, but I've just spent an afternoon struggling with this, and for no apparent reason, it just breaks on me.

I'm no newbie. I've been dealing with the ups and downs of Joomla and its various extensions for well over a year. I know my way around unix servers, FTP, permissions, and all that.

I installed this extension, and it immediately reports that I have permission problems in directories that it must access. Never before have I had to manually set directories to 766, but for whatever reason, Joomgallery wants this. Strike one.

So, I go an set all the directories thusly, and I get green OKs from the configuration. Then I try uploading with Java. No go. Long error message that is also reported to no avail on the JoomGallery forum, but the developer has no idea what's causing it. Strike two.

Then I try to upload a single image. More errors. File uploads, but does not populate into the the thumbnail and detail directories. And worse, the images that used to appear in the slide show disappear. Strike three!

Finally, the back-end UI is clunky and awkward with a bazillion options that would confuse a shuttle astronaut, never mind my clients.

The extension seems hopelessly broken and I'm afraid I'm going to have to look for another solution.

aiContactSafe
This has to be the easiest to install extension ever created.

Also, it does what it says. No extra bells and whistles and comes with captcha. I'm a happy camper.

Tabs & Sliders
It installs quickly and painlessly, and I can't imagine how to make it much easier to use. Unfortunately, if you want to customize its functions, there are few if any options.

Also, the message boards on the developer site are not well monitored by the developers. Several people have been requesting a way to have the first tab open when the page loads, but a proper solution has yet to be posted. There is one detailed response to the question, but it doesn't seem to work with the latest version of T&S.

Ignite Gallery
Installation was a breeze, but I couldn't actually upload the images themselves. I went to the developer's forum and saw that someone else had the same problem with the same error messages having to do with not finding the right directory for uploads. The only solutions offered required the user to make changes to the code (which apparently didn't work either). Sorry, if this doesn't work out of the box, what's the point? If I have to monkey with code, I should just build my own Flash presentation.
