Installing is a little more complicated than many extensions. In fact, any extension download that tells you to "unzip first" means that you're should be a Joomla expert, but if so, then the process is otherwise rather straightforward.
I have found this to be a good complement to Google Analytics, even with Google's new real time tracking. However, you do need to be careful about how much data you want to track, because Joomlawatch will make your database bloat up something huge. This becomes an issue with migration and upgrades, which in this case, are still anything but intuitive. Knowledge of MySQL is essential.
Nice work, though. I can't recommend enough.
Hi,
You were and are more than welcome to use the forum or contact me for help using the extension. These issues can be caused by conflicts with other plugins and or your template. So always best to contact the plugin author before leaving a 'review'
This would work great, I suppose, with relatively simple sites or blogs, but it does hobble full Joomla installations.
I'm looking forward to future versions. It's definitely the best solution available in this category.
Thanks for your feedback roadsider. Following Joomla!, we are focusing on a high performance and stable core, which would be expanded with extensions. This, as you say, is aimed to provide solution for relatively simple sites. Once we achieve this, we will introduce Mobile extensions to mobilize more complex Joomla! sites.
It really bothers me that the row of icons will appear ABOVE any "read more" link you might have. And yes, putting the big Digg icon at the top right completely interferes with any right-wrapped images. And there is no way to stop this except to completely turn it off.
Hi roadsider. As described in the documentation, the layout of this plugin is much more flexible than any other plugin available. Everything is extremely flexible. You can place every button at either the Top or Bottom position. These both have custom div classes with an included CSS file so you can float it left or right, or create any styling you wish for any layout.
Each button (there are over 60 implemented and ready for you to use) can be enabled or disabled through the XML file and set to either position in any order you wish. If you don't like the big Digg button then use the small one. If you don't want it up top then move it to the bottom. If you don't want it floating right, float it left, or leave it above the content.
As far as you being bothered by the buttons appearing above the Read More link, that's a limitation of Joomla. A content plugin can only manipulate content within an article, and Joomla places the Read More link after the article after the plugins are run.
It sounds like you're not looking for a plugin at all, you'd probably be better off using a module so you can place it somewhere else on your page.
And I'm not sure I can blame the app just yet, but for some reason, I only see my own account (out of 2500). The others are not showing. At one point, I was trying to see the category list from one website and the App kept taking me to the other installation I had enabled. I had to restart the app.
Is $10 too much? It is if you don't get much value for the money or don't use the app at all. This app, in my estimation, would be good for someone on the road all the time with NO access to their laptop and/or the internet. It's also an excellent proof of concept.
If you're bathing in wifi already and carry your laptop with you everywhere, then take the $10 and buy a couple of lattes at the coffee shop where you do your work.
I posted a comment and question at the author's site and haven't received an answer after a week.
Selecting link by category defaults to the Joomla category blog layout default with no way of customizing. If you do not mind having your category blog layout as big article on top with two columns underneath with NO category description, then this module is for you.
Also, the developer's site has no forum for raising questions. The rest of the site is in Czech.
I'm no newbie. I've been dealing with the ups and downs of Joomla and its various extensions for well over a year. I know my way around unix servers, FTP, permissions, and all that.
I installed this extension, and it immediately reports that I have permission problems in directories that it must access. Never before have I had to manually set directories to 766, but for whatever reason, Joomgallery wants this. Strike one.
So, I go an set all the directories thusly, and I get green OKs from the configuration. Then I try uploading with Java. No go. Long error message that is also reported to no avail on the JoomGallery forum, but the developer has no idea what's causing it. Strike two.
Then I try to upload a single image. More errors. File uploads, but does not populate into the the thumbnail and detail directories. And worse, the images that used to appear in the slide show disappear. Strike three!
Finally, the back-end UI is clunky and awkward with a bazillion options that would confuse a shuttle astronaut, never mind my clients.
The extension seems hopelessly broken and I'm afraid I'm going to have to look for another solution.
Also, the message boards on the developer site are not well monitored by the developers. Several people have been requesting a way to have the first tab open when the page loads, but a proper solution has yet to be posted. There is one detailed response to the question, but it doesn't seem to work with the latest version of T&S.
