You was right, Unicode support is absent. It is my old idea, to have possibility to edit articles in my favourite Vim, but it is still a dream& :-(
Error message is: «Unknown Unicode option letter ' '». Maybe, it's just my own error, I will be very glad to hear this and possible solution.
I don't know Perl, so I can only hope somebody will improve this script or I will at last wright my own in other language.
