Akeeba Backup
I have used Akeeba to back up multiple sites that I administer and have never had any problem with it. The ease of use is exemplary.

I had to use it to transfer two sites to new domains, using the Kickstart application which is also provided by the same developer. I wish that they include the Kickstart app into the Akeeba core, so that clicking on a button in the Akeeba control panel will automatically place a kickstart.php file in the default directory (maybe the user can be asked to select the directory) and run the program in a new browser window. That would really round out this extension into a back up and restore utility.

Thank you for your review! The feature you suggested is already implemented in our for-a-fee Akeeba Backup Professional edition and is called "integrated restoration".

Admin Tools
After reading about the steps required to secure a Joomla site against hacking (http://docs.joomla.org/Category:Security_Checklist)I was wondering whether to take a chance at renaming the sql databases and so on, when I came across this extension. It covered almost every step that the security checklist advised me to do, and hence saved me hours of work and innumerable gray hairs!
The only significant point that is not covered (and is present in the Pro edition) is a secure htaccess file, but you can easily get a master file which was edited by the same developer, from the Joomla Security Centre and modify it for your site.
This is such an excellent piece of software, along with the other offering from the developer (Akeeba Backup) that I am seriously considering buying a Pro version just to express my support, though I dont really need the additional benefits of the Pro edition.

Change Administrator
I had previously been using jSecure to prevent access to the default administrator login page, but that extension has become commercial, and hence I started searching for a free alternative, and came across this one.
I was a little intimidated by the warnings about mod-rewrite, but since I had just installed joomla into a fresh website I decided to give it a whirl. I installed it and went into the extension and typed a new name into the only window available, and presto, I had a new administrator login URL!
One of the best and simplest extensions I have ever come across.
I would however recommend that the button for documentation should not lead to a 404 error!

Hi!

Thank you for your feedback.
The 404 are for Joomla 1.6.1 to 1.6.3.
Try to login and logout in this versions.

Now in Joomla 1.7 is dont display, more redirect to index.php of the site.
