The Joomla! Extensions Directory ™

After using this component for some time now, I decided to post my review here.

I run a website for roughly 200 users from whom a few have additional rights. I have configured these rights in noixACL groups.

It is absolutely not for the faint hearted to try to make this component work as you would want. When I started with this component no tutorial or documentation was available whatsoever. Fortunately this has changed and you can find good tutorials via this link (requires registration):

(it even describes usage with QVARNIS, EventList, K2, Phoca Download, Virtuemart, Kunena, CB and DOCMan 1.4 !!!)

I have made this work with both backend users and frontend users and it works like a charm. There are a few small issues though:
- When editing users from noixACL it returns to the joomla users screen after save.
- When using the filter option in any tab, it is remebered in other tabs, requiring an extra mouse click to reset the filter.
- Saving certain access levels is not saved in the database, requiring you to do it manually (advanced!)
- New groups do not automatically have access to items in the frontend of the parent group they were assigned to. Example: a new group is assigned to the publisher parent group (joomla default) with additional rights. This group is not able to access content items set to 'special access level'.

There is fortunately a (simple) solution for this. It took me hours of trying different things to fin out so be thankful ;-)

If you disable the content-adapter in noixACL, the access level problem described above is solved.

Joomla 1.6 will be having native ACL, so do not expect the author of this component to solve any of this. You will have to make do with what you find in forums or in this review.

This plugin does what it says and is a must have for any webmaster. It is in the top of my to-install-list whenever I start a site.

For those wanting to change the language or email contents send to the registering user, look in /administrator/language/en-GB for the files to change. It should be called en-GB.plg_xi_adminapproval.ini Make sure your en-GB.com_user.ini (in /language/en-GB/) fits the expected for the user as well.

Great module, the best I have seen so far. Very custimizable. It lets you:
- enter any html before the acquired date
- after the acquired date
- lets you define a html field to be displayed if the date has been reached
- define a server time offset
- define the css in the module parameters itself

All in all, the most complete one around. Well done developer!

P.S. No problems in IE7 on my side. I tested it in Firefox, IE7 and IE8.

I have been looking for such a plugin for a while now, it works great!

Configure the length of your article (number of characters) and see the result. Brilliant!

Would appreciate the possibility for perhaps thumbing any images included in the article (as K2 does), that would make it really complete!
