Ugh, the Google API for maps doesn't work for the Map Module

I really wanted an app like JEA but wanted it for J1.7. Thought I found it but the component has too many entries for MapAPI ID. One in the backend, one in the module so GoogleAppMap whines when you're either in the front-end or back-end. I thought I could trick the app by using the back-end ID when I was creating the entries but no. It wants to use the back-end module for it's primary listing map and the front-end map module use it's own API ID for that module. I guess my choices are limited -- pay a subscription or force my site to be J1.5 and enjoy JEA a little longer...

Well, I am not too sure how everyone else loves this product but others have posted that it DOESN'T work on J1.7 and that's what I've got. Two hours later and I'm wishing I didn't attempt this app because it has been a complete waste of...Oh, wait, I should say, his site warned me..."waste your time 'at your own' risk".

The author will more than likely slam my post that I should have submitted an FAQ or looked at the documentation link, and I did but the only thing that stands out is...

Hmm... in the future please make sure you download the installer for Joomla 1.7. Don't download installer for J 1.5, goes here and said: it's NOT compatible.

The following are some tips for you:

1. Go to download section http://www.zootemplate.com/forums/downloads.php

2. You will see "Joomla 1.7 Free Extensions" category: http://www.zootemplate.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=76

3. Select "ZT Facebook Module" download link http://www.zootemplate.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=437 ( There is nearly 3000 downloaded times )

4. Download, install and enjoy!

After installing it and creating an FAQ and several categories, I was about ready to s-can this app because nothing was showing up. How weird that the "first" category, or better said the name of your FAQ book, has to have no topics (e.g. empty). That is not intuitive, nor is not having Captcha on a user submission page.

I like the look of the Category page and left side navigation. It's about the only way to have this app but I would really, really like to see Captcha for the submission.

Gave a 4 star for great effort. Better documentation and backend documentation...and Captcha would have earned a solid 5.

I think I'm kinda glad that I don't program anymore because I would hate to have my plugin ridiculed for a limitation of the browser for one simple approach to catch the greater percentage of uninformed web users who don't know how to turn off Javascript, let along the shortcut copy/paste keys. If you're looking for a quick JS right-click inclusion on every page, this plugin will do it. One caveat: I found nothing useful in identifying the level of the user in the plugin.

You either enable or disable right-click. No fine tuning the access.

In my 1.5 site, I had a manual glossary database. Now all I have to do is install a module and it's set. The only thing I don't like is having the icons on every page but there's a work around! Install it into an undefined template module position (like my-own-div) and you get all of the functionality without the visual icon abuse. Truly a great app and I am thankful to the maker!

There are only a handful of apps that I implement over and over as Joomla has evolved, and this is one of them. Love a simple interface for my visitors and love the ease of administration the programmer has created!

I have tried a good number of others in preparation for my 1.7 roll out and I'm quite impressed with this one. One thing: left and right alignment only. But not a deal killer for a great score. It'll likely be in a minor release... thanks!

I'm sorry to say that there is not much use for this app if the companion importer app doesn't work well. I have wasted hours trying to get the two to work and had to resort to my own SQL dump and SQL massage INSERT INTO to migrate the data. I accept that migration is no a sure science but real reviews would have helped me to consider the viability of this app.

I'm in the middle of a 1.5 to 1.7 migration and needed something great to use for contacts. Although Fox wasn't my first choice, simply because I was using another product, I have come to truly appreciate Fox's work and dedication. It is very easy to install and get running and if you have a request, Fox responds quickly and is eager to expand the functionality. I think what kept me away from my first use two years ago was the scary "backlink" reference. Fox explains this and it is fair to allow it for the programmer to show off his work and get donations. Thanks Fox!

Dear app writer, I loved your J2XML but the importer didn't want to work for the weblinks, which I have more of than articles. While your program did work with the articles, I am forced to go brute force and dump my SQL table and massage it into my new system. Sure, I wanted to contact you but not at the expense of registering on your site. Good job so far but I looked every where on your site for info on importing links and couldn't find it.

I was a little worried seeing some low ratings on this plugin but the bloody thing rocks! I haven't tried embedding tags but don't see the logic in it -- if PUBlic then {pub}You don't get to see address{/pub} else if REGistered then {reg}1234 Main Street{/reg}.

AND, I was able to wrap the REG tags around an image! Lovely plug in, just lovely!!!
