So I went on a mad rampage this morning in order to try and improve the overall experience of dealing with the admin template. My every day computing is pretty effective as I'm used to working with screen, mutt, vimperator, and other useful tools where I can avoid the mouse. As I've been getting into Joomla, AEC, CB, and all the rest, I've obviously been spending more and more time in the admin template. This has gotten to be more annoying as I've added more components, modules, and plugs. The default template requires using the mouse to navigate the menus (not sure why but vimperator is not able to trigger the submens). Anyway, I spent hours going through all the top rated JEB extensions in the Admin section. None of them provide what I want. CQI may be the closest but I'm turned off by its use of the cpanel section. I even wasted a good hour or more trying to find an alternative admin template..... wild good chase at best.
After looking into this tool and communicating a few requests to the developers, I'm convinced this tool is heading in the right direction. Currently, any component can be made into an icon (which solves the problem of immediate access). No more hunting through rediculous menus with the mouse and having to worry about losing the menu if the mouse falls off the submenu item!). Pretty soon, I think the tool is going to be extended to allow us to turn other common targets like Module Manager, Plugin Manager and the rest into icons as well. Once completed, this will be the ultimate power tool for any admin who is tired of having to work so slowly due to the interface of the admin template.
Good deal!
