does the job, while not being the best of looking systems, covers most core components that would need to be covered but does allow an on/off function - which was great (didnt want captcha for logins!, only for registrations )
only down side is yes it does require patching the core system, but patches are on hand and do seem to be released promptly

I actually unlike some of the other reviews went the other way around, i switched from JomComment ( pro ) to JoomlaComment - the biggest reason for me is this is a far lighter component and its integration is less troublesome and they actually do use version numbers not build numbers which are difficult to track
The only downside to this component is its lack of spam triggers it would be nice if the badword filter which transforms from bad to acceptable also provided an "auto delete upon words" so a spam zappper could be put to use

i do love this gallery it works as advertised and the option to simply upload a folder within the main folder and it will automatically create categories for said folders, however a downside to this is there is ( not that ive found ) no way to set global permissions upon these new categories so when i create them im stuck with running an SQL query to get them all set to public viewable in one swift move
other than that this extension is growing in new ways with each release and only gets better each time.

Great little system, however there are a few things i have over looked or cannot seem to locate. The first would be the usage of a rel=tag" method to allow services like technorati to pick them up. The second would be the option to re-use used tags in the content without the need to use the edit, checkbox or similar would be novel
DOCman much like the phoenix is one of those components that was the best in its field in the 1.3.x incarnation all be it with small issues. The 1.4.x release has allowed this component in terms of 'community' to rise from the dead the response time and general feel of the community is excellent.
In terms of features i think DOCman could very very easy be put down as a directory component its flexible nature allows any user with a few hours to mess around with it and produce pretty much anything they want!
The only downside .. to me.. is the theme setup is ok very very neat but very difficult and things like this are known to hold components back ( simpleboard )
Given that virtually every issue with 1.3 is gone and 1.4 is building on new features and new ways to expand i expect DOCman will have a very bright future ;)

This is perhaps one of the most beautiful components to ever look at, the design is simply perfect everything is at hand. Install was a breeze and the entire look of the component oozes class, i hear this is no where near finished but i couldnt give it anymore props truely wonderful hats off to the devs behind this.
Simple, plain not over bearing combined with the bot - works as advertised. doesnt come with a pretty look or anything like that but if you're not afer anything like that just plain and simple this works perfect :)

My goal with this component is to keep it simple and should be fit in well with your site and with the use of CSS you can tailor to fit your need.
Thanks
