What is JTags?
JTags is a Joomla! Extension for adding keywords (tags) to Joomla! Content.
What is it for?
The general project idea is to enable users inserting specific labels to tag any Joomla! content. Some time ago I was browsing some site and looked for articles related to "iPhone". Unfortunately I was forced to browse every page and stare at text just focused to find requested label. I guess many of you was at the similar situation, so you know how it is tiring and frustrating. If only I could just select/type "iPhone" tag, I would find requested articles just in eye blink.

Very impressed. Tried so many of the existing tagging solutions for 1.5, all the others seem to be either too complex or just not nice enough. This is very refined, simple, and beautiful. Thank you!

Being new to Joomla, I have tried out a number of plug-ins and primarily look for simplicity of use. JTags is one such plug-in. It has a visible interface with the editor allowing direct input of tags without leaving the editor workspace. It even has a dropdown box to select pre-existing tags from. It provides a tag cloud and allows article tags to be at either the top or bottom of the article.

It did confuse me for a moment. I kept recieving the ALL TAGS red banner and no tags were added. I couldn't figure out why so I unistalled JTags and tried something else. Well the something else was unusable. So I thought may be I had corrupted the installation of JTags, and re-installed it. I still got the ALL TAGS red banner and no tags were added. This time I realised that I was trying to add a 2 character tag. I added another character to the offending tag and it worked.

Ah, 3 character tag GOOD; 2 character tag BAD. And yes I did look at the available documentation. If this constraint is documented I did not spot it.

The support is non-existant, there is no support at all on the web site and the product simply does not work. Glad i'm not paying for it.

This is by far the best tagging solution I have even used on Joomla websites. The drop down menu to reuse the existing tags is a feature that beats the pulp out of other solutions. My favorite!

I understand Eventlist component also uses the default Joomla editor and I am unable to get Jtags working with Eventlist. Should I edit any files to get it working or use any plugin to get it working? Thanks.

Where can I set to jtags search for keyword in articles by default.
When I click on a tag it won't find any articles because I did not add tags for articles. Just imported a lot of keyword for the front page in the db/jtag tables from csv.
And if I add hundreds of tags on my front page it cannot be shown, only a white page. Maybe this is server side "error".

I have tried every free component under Tags & Clouds. This one is the best. Strait up, no frills tagging. Thanks for the contribution!

Works nicely to tag my articles. A must have on a new site to give authors ability to organize article tags as they build content library.

I only hope that author will enhance extension to have option when installed on a site to do auto search for tags already in use and build the tag list from them automatically after you install it. I also hope that author will add a text parsing routine to create a suggested list of tags from posted articles if the site has not tagged the articles already. Also hope author adds the ability to build tag list from the section, category, and menu names automatically.

Would also be nice if a tag feed of most popular tags being searched for on net could be integrated to allow tagging with popular tags that related to site content.

the few negative reviews do cover it i think.
When you have a full website and your not planning to add any more content then this tag thing gives you the feeling you have to start over again.
nobody in his right mind would edit 478 content pages in order to add some tags.
but i gave it a try.
Uninstalling wasnt easy as well.
the plugin failed and trashed my site as i use gzip and that somehow was a problem..

When navigating to your articles through JTags, the articles URL changes and is not the same as what Joomla! creates. This makes module placement on selected articles impossible using JTags. You might want to show all your modules on all your pages and you will be fine, but if you want to show modules and menus on specific pages they will not show if you navigate to them via JTags. Breadcrumbs will also not work as expected. This is a major flaw and is the reason for a low rating.

This component fills a big black empty space desperately needed in Joomla. The new Version 1.1 does just what it says! it is very easy to use and fits extremely well into the 10 templates I tested it on. Thumbs up for this great add-on.

The same old story, it's not a real tagging extension I don't know why it's call it that way, it just use search which is a totally different story. Right now it's kind of useless, you can just use search instead, what's the difference ? I know it's harder to make a real tagging extension but it worth much more.

This is a wonderful nice Joomla add-on that with a few extra features will be a real top 10 for Joomla 1.5 framework. If you have not tried this yet - just one thing!

Do it!

Very nice, but one big problem - if you go from the tag search result to an article the url of the article will be wrong (instead of the article's usual url it says /component/content/article/xx ). This means that a menu and other modules assigned to the article may not show up. Also not working with breadcrumbs.

You should be redirected to the article url and not the component url in the search result if this extension really shall work.

I've been waiting a very long time for such an extension to be made. This has made my website more like a blog, which is exactly what I needed, and adds in some very cool features that I like.

I would say the only two things that need to change is to provide the ability to give a style to the tags module, and to also type tags before hitting save on an article. Otherwise, this is an excellent extension to use.

Simple and nice component ! Good work !

If author will develop this extension, in feature it could be "must to have" extension for every Jommla installation.

Why Joomla team wouldn't develop such simple thing in core installation. Cross categorization problem is still there (Drupal beats Joomla in this field)...
