Community Builder Search PluginExtension Specific Addon

The CB Search Plugin adds native search functionality into Joomla 1.5 for Community Builder 1.2 and above. It has been based on the original version by meuchel for CB 1.1 and has been upgraded to use the Joomla 1.5 search API.

It has the ability to set the menu Itemid for the search results (usually the main Community Builder menu item) as well as choose the name for Profiles and limit the number of search results returned. It can either search all profile fields except any defined in the blacklist or only fields defined in the whitelist. The default fields to be displayed in the search result can also be configured along with the name format and date.

Usage instructions:

- Install the plugin through the normal Joomla Install/Uninstall page
- Edit the 'Search - Community Builder' plugin on the Joomla Plugin Manager page
- Enter the menu Itemid for Community Builder and any other parameters as required
- Enable the plugin and consider creating indices on the fields to be searched

I'm using CB and Facewall to make a facebook-like community for a customer. Problem is, the Facewall search only searches names and nothing else. Being able to search profiles within the native Joomla search is awesome, and I'm surprised the CB doesn't already do this on its own.

Thanks for a great FREE plugin!

Works very well.

Even works when using a AJAX style popup search.

It could be a little more refined into what it brings back from CB (like profile images) but I think this is a limitation of CB or Joomla not the plugin.

also...
WE NEED A VERSION FOR 1.7!

I am really surprised that this is not a native addon offered from Community Builder yet...since CB's built in search is limited to its own users lists.

This brings the community users on the search results of your joomla; in http://www.yourwebsite.com/component/search you can also search only between the users (Members).
Thanks to developers.

I'm sorry that Joomjason missed something and gave this a bad review, because I installed it and had it running in literally two minutes. I wanted to be able to search for words contained in Community Builder custom profile fields I set up (cb_company, cb_category, cb_summary) and it does just that. There are just 10 parameters to consider and I changed only one: I dropped those 3 cb field names into "Fields to be searched" and hit "Save." Back on the frontend I tried it using the standard joomla search input box and was able to find my members' profiles on words in their company name, category and/or business summary. You'll get this going so fast, you'll think it can't possibly be that easy and work that well, but it's just brilliant!

This plugin works great. The only problem is it doesn't link to the user's profiles. So what's the point of having it if you can't click on the username in the results and visit their profile?

If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know! I really need this to link to each users profile and I would imagine everyone else would too!

Yes, I am afraid you are doing something wrong. If you look at the demo, you can see that it does indeed link to the user's profile. You are also the first person to experience this problem.

You may want to adjust the "Linked title format" setting as you probably have a different name configuration then the default option. You are welcome to contact me of post a question in the support forum before submitting a review here.

15 minutes to install this plugin and configure is something like forever. It took me 2 minutes to download, install, configure and publish. It works great on my site and with my ajax search too.

At last i can offer my members a way to search for other members instead of the regular lists offered by Community Builder core.

Thanks you for your plugin, it saved my community

Finally, someone has integrated CB search into the core framework. Very easy to use plugin that allows for customization of fields searched and results. I installed this, made changes to suit my needs, and had it all up and running in 15 minutes. Works like a charm!
