This extension has some promise but it's a long way off an acceptable level of completion.

In addition to the comments in the previous review I would add that there is a function to grab meta tags from articles and add those to the list of tags in the component - which on face value is a nice idea.

But the tags will not be grabbed as distinct tags - so if you have one tag appearing as a meta tag in several articles it will appear several times as a tag in the component tag list. This will instantly create a long unwieldy list of duplicated tags.

Although you can edit the text of tags there is no option to delete them. Which is just plain silly really.

The help forum has cobwebs, so my guess is that this extension started out as a good intention but got superceded by more urgent / fun matters along the line. Which is absolutely fair enough - since it's free.

Avoid unless you just want a very rudimentary tagging system with a limited list of tags you can easily manage, or the extension and support improves radically.

ps. It would be great if users could mark the JED contents as abandoned / out of date etc. Would save a lot of hassle installing and testing rubbish.

Cool Extension but many bugs and limitations, the most relevants:

1) No possible to add tags when writing an article in the front end

2) Long tags become truncated and is impossible to deactivate this limitation

3) Impossibile to choice more than one category in tagcloud settings

4) No possibility to remove tag from the list

5) GiTags Cloud: the function for setting "Number of tags in cloud" doesn't have effect

This has to be one of the most essential additions for any site. I am buildign an education portal in J1.7 where content editors create content in their own areas. One requirement was for someone reading content in one area to see related content from others. Et Voila! GiTags allows just that. REally well though out and executed, thank you!

I really like the idea and there is absolutely a need for tags.

One of the problems for me is that you are foreced to enter tags... some of my articles is not a blogpost and will not have tags.

Also there is a lack of control of tags.

I was starting to despair slightly at the lack of tagging solutions for Joomla 1.6, but this did the job well. Nothing too fancy, just a simple tagging extension with some nice features. Be sure to activate all 4 of the plug-ins.

Awesome first effort for a 1.0 version. This was simple to setup, thanks to the other reviews of suggesting to activate all Plugins (4) and Module (1). Plenty of options that I found useful (top or bottom, show on main page or not, font sizes, etc...).

I've installed the extension on my Joomla 1.6 web without success. The tags don't appear in the articles and the tags cloud don't show. I don't know man. Looks like the extension 's got to cook a little bit longer, test and bugs shooting and so.
I've uninstalled the thing.

I had a little trouble at first because I forgot to activate ALL of the plugins (there are 4 as of this writing).

The only complaint I have is that if you select a Category for the tag cloud module, it doesn't include sub-categories in the cloud as well.

i was looking for a tag sytem for 1.6, read the review, an thougt ok give it a try, and it works perfect, you have to make sure that you intall and aktivate all the plugins.

This is my first official review. After I have been working with JTAG for Joomla 1.5 and properly doing its service. Do I have to say this now, unfortunately, Native Version for Joomla 1.6 cost me much time. J.16 GiTags was deleted. Because it's simply not possible to use the Save function.

Secondly, I am waiting in vain for a working Tagging solution for Joomla.
