j4age ComponentModulePluginExtension Specific Addon

j4age statistics is an open-source project, which is supported by ecomize and it's technical team. j4age is an statistics component for the popular open-source CMS Joomla and has it roots based on the JoomlaStats component.

Technical Requirements
- PHP 5.x and above
- MySQL 4.x and above
- Joomla 1.5 & Joomla 1.6 native support

Restricted support for PHP 4.x and MySQL 3.x for the core component, but no guarantee for the migration/update process. This module is only handling IPv4 networks and not officially IPv6!

Few things you should know
- After installation, you have to run a Post-Installation process. That´s not because we want it that way, it´s more about getting control about issues with huge databases.
- Do not assign the j4age component to a menu item even if a link is shown up in your admin page for selection. The component itself has no public front-end part and you will see only a error message!!

- Most people install the activation module, but do not enable it or do assign it to a location, which is actually not used in their template like "left". Make sure, that you can see the Module title on your webpage, before hiding the title! Only then statistics are captured!
- An activation module must be set to "public" access, if you want to count all visits. If you set it to "registered" or "special" you would only count those visits
- If the module does not work, you can also download & install as alternative the activation plugin.
- Some people are complaining, that the activation module is not completely invisible on the webpage as a empty border is draw on the page. That´s because your template is adding styles, so simply try to find another active position, where the template is not adding styles. (As alternative use just the activation plugin)

Good to know

- j4age includes a migration mechanism to convert the existing JoomlaStats Version (until 3.0.4) to j4age
- j4age is collecting over the time alot of information, please keep in eye on your DB size

j4age is not Google Analytics, so please do not try to compare us one to one to them. Unlike Google Analytics we are open source and you can review our algorithms. It is hard to differentiate bots from regular visitors, especially as they try to pretend to be regular visitors. We have applied many advanced algorithms to get it under control and this will result into slightly different results between Google Analytics and us.

We will improve the "Cache" / History feature, so that you can drop data from the database without losing information on the Summary pages. We currently operating in a similar way, but a refectoring of the algorithms are required.

We also work further more advanced features, but more details are provied 2012.

This extension installed and worked as "slickly" (to coin a word?) as anything I have seen in a long while. One of the GOOD ones............
A plethora of info well organized.

j4age is absolutely useful. It has all necessary functions while not being overloaded and the performance is very good.
Unfortunately, some functions don't work anymore since J!1.7.2/1.7.3. I submitted bug reports and received the reply that the issues are currently being worked at but that was months ago and the last update was more than half a year ago, so it seems that the extension is not really actively being developed and maintained any more.
That's really a pity because IMHO it's among the best free J! statistics extensions!

Thank you very much for your positive feedback. Currently we indeed face some delays as have not enough resources and we would appreciate any developer, who likes to assist us in this open source project. There are already some nice new features in Beta status and we are looking forward to release them asap. Stay tuned!

I was looking for joomlastats for Joomla1.7
The original joomlastats did not work. This one does! Very easy to install, and even the modules labeled Joomla1.6 are functioning without any problems for Joomla1.7. Very nice, thank you.

This is an absolute must have in order to keep track on your visitors. Lots and lots of information with the ability to select and filter out to find what you are looking for.

Thank you very much!

this is just simply useful and great. I'd love to see if your able to save reports or get them emailed at regular intervals. I just use the print screen button and save them in writer.

I'm using this component with Joomla 1.5 since a few days ago.

Installation was very easy.

The amount of information that this module gives and the quality of the presentation is sincerely impresive.

I was not using really statistics information about my site as I was using plesk-stat, and I had to go to my server control panel, the presentation was a little unpleasant. Now I've got all this information inside Joomla, only one place to login, and hope to be able to concentrate more in site optimisation.

One of those Joomla components that I will keep using for sure.

Installed the component into my 1.5 and then installed the activation module. Published the activation module and refreshed my website.

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class js_JSConf in /home/farrells/public_html/administrator/components/com_j4age/libraries/base.classes.php on line 243

If I unpublished the activation module the fatal error goes away. I imagine I will try the activation plug-in, instead.

Hi, this is not really a j4age. I guess you have installed JoomlaStats and did not uninstall / disable it as documented here, in the component, on the webpage. We also show an error message within the j4age administrator tool itself until all modules related to Joomlastats are disabled.

j4age is the newer version of Joomlastats. Running both version in parallel will cause issues!

installed on joomla 1.5 is a very good component that does what it says, I compared its results with those of google analytics (difference less than 10 visits in between) and I get more information with useful j4age .... very useful and easy to understand ... it lacks one thing: the possibility of a funnel ... between the home page and the cart when there are a success and the payment
good luck

Wow, that sure was tough! Let's see... install one component - done. Install one plugin - done. Activate plugin - done. Browse a few pages on the site - done. Review statistics. Viola! Huston, we have statistics!

Couldn't be easier. Thank you for the simplicity!

I was using the JoomStats in the Joomla! 1.0 age, after this i switch to external tool. Now i tried to install j4age.

Installation is simple, only the splitting post-installation to two step can be confising for unexperience users. The activation module/plugin hare duplicated in function, but using the module with restricted privileges can provide bad counting.

Backend reports are excelent. Frontend graphical reports are missing, but if i properly remember, this is the same as in JoomStats and perhaps i am only dainty by my external tool.

"Included" modules have inconsistent layouts. The Country one uses the flags (not included in component), but the Browsers and OS das not. Something as div.class is not included, but can be solved by moduleclass suffix.

The backend provides the tool to debug the unknown user-agents, but i cannot find any tool to add/edit them. But identification of the robots seems to be excelent!

Result: excelent component with good modules for users, which do not want detailed reports in frontend, but want full reports in backend. It can be used by unexperienced users too...

The basic part of a component and a plugin is very cool, and gives a lot of information on the visitors, and works perfectly.
The modules are extra bonus, as you can put all sorts of use(less/full) information on your site.
Bottomline is, it's easy to install, and easy to use, and best of all, updated to J1.7!

For 5 months I've been fighting with Google Analytics - regardless of how I set it up (using various modules and plugins that are supposed to enable GA to work with Joomla) the stats were NEVER correct. I installed j4age in about 5 minutes, ran a few tests, and walla - there were my visitors and the pages they visited! THANK YOU! I made a small donation - wish it could have been more!

I formerly used joomlastats, but the I found this extension. It upgraded my database without any problem. Very simple in use. When i try to upgrade to Joomla 1.7, it still counts in the frontend but the backend is no more accessible.

Thanks for this powerfull tool. This is a only one satisfaing solution for free, and much more...This is no-cost realtime solution for page monitornig, far best than slotions like in my cpanel (via my host provider).
This component working like swiss watch for my political magazine website. I am new in web businnes, so i will donate this product soon as posible (depending on my first business results :)).
One more time, many many thanks.

(just one little thing: why statistics show US flag when i am loging from Bosnia?! Is it something about wrong settings?)

First I want to thank the creator of this extention for his marvelous peace job.
I'm now using it for 7 months and still amazes me for the info it shows me. Of course I also use Google analytics and another analitycs site for a total overview.

There is one thing I want to know, Is it possible for users to import icons for ISP's which are not known to J4age. When I click on the visits tab, there are a few ISP's who have an Icon next to there domainname. Some show an not present image an a lot of them don't have an Icon.
Owner's reply

thank you for your feedback.

this is the wrong place for placing questions, but the ISP icons are loaded directly from the ISP by guessing the favicon.ico URL located on their webapge. Nothing can be imported to j4age.

This is a great and very useful tool. It is also very easy to be installed and configured. Withing a couple of minutes I was able to see it working and stat results were already there. Thank a lot to the developer. Keep doing your good work on this tool. Greatly appreciated.
