Error 404

- Yes
* an explanation text
* a link to your homepage
* a search engine that searches on your website
For each error, a mail is sent to the address you want to tell you. You can also define keywords to avoid some of these mails. For example, if you add the keyword "test", all the dead links with the word test will display the error page to users, but will not send the mail. There is now an admin interface for these keywords.
Since version 1.6 the text of the error page can be changed easily from the admin interface.
Version 1.7 to 2.0a correct errors in the plugin and improve detection of pages in error.
This component is available in French, English, Ukrainian, Russian, Brasilian, Dutch and Czech.
This version is now compatible with the native Joomla SEF. You do not need to change the htaccess file anymore. The redirection is done by a plugin which uses the original htaccess file from Joomla.
It even sent out an e-mail (if you like) so you can check on your site where and why this link is broken.
LOVE IT!
I added "Yahoo! Slurp" (3) as a keyword to leave off the list. This will make sense once you install. A big thumbs up - guys.
Ok, I corrected this bug in version 2.0a.
You can use the cdprof.com's forums to tell me the bugs you find. There is a forum for english speaking visitors.
Thank you.
To the JED team:
I hope the title of this review ( Error 404 - Page not found ) will help people find it. At this point if you just type "404" it does not show up, because com_error404 is treated by the search engine as one word.
Hi Yamada,
I didn't receive your email.
And there is a forum in english for this component :

Best,
Alain
But, I get a warning that mail subject is not completed, even if it actually is...
I use it without receiving e-mails with no problem other than not being informed about the error pages.
Hi stonebug,
Thank you for your review. Can you please post on the forum at cdprof.com and tell me were you have a warning ... I don't have warnings ;-)
Best,
Alain
Je l'installe désormais sur tous les sistes que j'administre.
Good job !
The only MINOR quibble was that in the parameter to enter the email address, the default entry made it look as though it would pick up a site default email address that I thought I had probably entered somewhere. When the redirection worked but did not appear to send an email I then realised I could not actually find where I might have entered a site default email address in Joomla. I then changed it to a specific email address and it worked perfectly, and instantly. Unless I've understood this incorrectly, it would probably be best to leave that with a 'generic' email address so it is obvious you need to enter your own.
But, hey, I'm being picky. 5 stars for an excellent widget, now to be an essential for all websites I manage.
Mmmm, it redirects to the 404 page on my website. Can you please contact me and give me more details so I can solve the problem ?
Best,
Alain
It could do with something to edit the message displayed, without having to go into the code (which is not too hard but inconvenient). And a css div around it would be nice too.
BTW a dutch translation is avalable here: http://download.joomlacommunity.eu/downloads/folder/14-overige.html
Thank you for your work!
Hi Toetatijn,
Thanks for your rating.
I added your suggestions to the component :
- text can now be edited through admin interface
- added some div
- added dutch translation
Best, Alain
This is not good.
But, this is a good start because if we can customize the 404 inside the site itself, it can be great.
That's corrected.
Best,
Alain
Hi,
I have a SEF compatible version. It's a beta version, but needs more testing. You can find it in the forum at cdprof.com.
I will release it as a public version if somebody tells me that it works fine on other websites than my websites.
Alain, developper of com_error404
