I liked this component, but was also dissapointed when I couldn't get it to overwrite the category meta data. Then I worked out how to overcome this problem.
Just delete the global meta keyword/description info in the Joomla global configuration area. You might need to clear cache as well. Once you've done that, this component/plugin works exactly as it says, updating both the section and category meta tags ok.

We installed this and updated our category/section meta fields.
Category pages do not display meta..nor sections. This was reported on the owners website support forum. Their support indicated these would be fixed in the next release.
As this is what it's supposed to do, I don't understand why they even offer it as a valid extension.

We did release a fixed version on 19th of July itself and that was announced in the forums as well.
Please download v2.0.0 that fixes the error you report.

This extension was just what I was looking for as I use Missing META DATA for articles but needed something for sections and categories and this baby did the trick. Just a few steps:
1. Register
2. Download
3. Unzip
4. Install the component
5. Install the plugin
6. Activate the plugin
7. Go to the component and update your META TAGs
Couldn't be easier.

Installation was very easy & quick, but the categories-meta don't work. That is, the description doesn't appear and still publishes the standard description for the whole website.
I don't care about the keywords, they're not used by Google since 2005, so I wouldn't know if they appear.

This extension is a must for any Joomla site. I also could not get this extension to work like the other reviewers below, but all you need to do after you installed the module is to enable it under the Plugin section. That's all and your section and category Meta tags will work. Remember to add your new category and section Meta tags using the module.
I can strongly recommend this extension to all!

Allows you to add SEO critical metadata to your category and section blog layouts.
This corrects in my opinion one of the largest downfalls of the default joomla installation. Thank You very much for this solution! I've installed and it works correctly on my 1.5.14 installation.
Now installed ,and has got round the issue of a site checker picking up duplicate meta tags on several pages.
Slightly fiddly to use as it is not integrated into the section manager, but once you locate the correct bit it's straightforward enough.

Was able to edit the section, but not the catagory, whatever edits I make do not show up.
Just what I was looking for. After installation you get another menu item in components, where you set up metas. Actually I don't understand why this function haven't been implemented in joomla by default.
I would appreciate if it would be possible to set the meta tags straight in Joomlas' Section Manager and Category Manager but can live with this as well.

This was exactly what I was looking for. An extension that allows me to manage the meta description and keywords for Section and Category pages.
One suggestion for the next version, make the fields a text block and increase the maximum character count.
