Custom Page Title - SEO

--- Installation ---
Download the plugin.
Install the plugin.
Enable the plugin by searching for 'Content - Custom Page Title' in your plugins manager.
--- Usage ---
Edit the article you want to change the page title for.
Enter your keywords or wording in to they text box 'Key Reference' which is located in the Advanced Parameters for the article you are editing.
Notes:
If you leave the key reference blank then the default page title will be set.
The same can be reproduced with the core Joomla 1.5.x installation on menu items, by changing the Page Title options in a menu item.
Joomla! 1.5.x cannot assign a custom page title to each article if you are displaying them in a blog format.
--- Update ---
Fixed an issue where the plugin was replacing the page title for blogs. The plugin no longer replaces the page title if the view is a blog type (frontpage, category, section).
meta name-"title" (where it still pulls the name of the article)
and:
I don't want two titles, and I have not been able to figure out how to correct this. If I uninstall pagetitle, it still leaves the "key Reference" field in the articles. Even though this is blank, the articles still show up with two titles.
I deducted one star for not being able to save key references that have the symbol '|' in it (I use this throughout my site to separate bits of the page title). I don't know if this is Joomla or the plugin, but upon save it will be left blank. Using any other symbol (such as /, \ or - do not give this problem.
Other than that, good job!
I'm sorry you were unable to get it to work. The plugin hasn't been changed since early 2009 and other users have had success using it, so I assume something might be wrong with the Joomla configuration.
You may have success if you check the following;
That the 'Page Title' is not set in the menu item for the article.
That you are not viewing a category or blog menu item instead of an article.
I hope this helps.
Your welcome and thanks for the review.
That's fantastic, doubling your traffic is a massive gain. Good to see my plugin helped with the SEO work you put into your site.
Only gripe would be that it whilst it works superbly with articles, it doesn't have the facility to give category/section pages custom titles. Is this in the pipeline?
Other than that, it's great!
Sorry it won't support Categories or Sections. Sections and categories don't contain a 'Key Reference' feild. If you want to change the Page Title for these, I think your only 'core' method is to set the 'Page Title' at the menu level for the item.
This 'plugin' was created to serve a need that I had for a Joomla website. There wasn't any needed to have it work with sh404sef, if you have the code that makes the two compatible I will update the package.
This has been fixed, thank you for bringing this to my attention.
This has been fixed, thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Thank you for sharing your solution, I'm sure you've saved a few people a couple hours of hair pulling.
What it doesn't do: custom title tags for sections/categories. (Use the native menu system instead, without the degree of control that you get with this plugin).
Nice work.
Having a user review with what it can do and what it doesn't do, really helps other users understand how to use it best and save them from spending time trying to figure out what isn't working the way they want it to.
Thank you so much.
