Easy Ping Plugin

Easy Ping is a plugin that adds ping to search engines support to Joomla 1.5.

It can ping popular search engines like google, yahoo, msn live, technorati, and more.

In addition it autocreates a sitemap.xml file with last 100 contents.

Also, if you use to copy images with copy&paste from another sites, it can handle them and download automatically. This helps in the way that if the other image is removed, your site continues working well.

2009-11-20 Version 1.2
* Support for a different sitemap to ping. You can write one sitemap url relative to your site and easyping will ping that sitemap instead of the default (generated) sitemap
* Problems with images with strange characters like spaces and others are not problem anymore. Easyping converts the filenames to a md5 hash of the original filename.

I tried this out on a few sites. I can't say if the ping improves seo or not.
I can say it slows down your site so much that it is not worth it. If you are new to joomla you will think it is joomla and perhaps never use joomla again!

Perhaps you can enable once and a while and press apply to all you articles and they can be pinged. But why bother?

Not just for pings but a great SEO tool. This is one of the absolute best ping plugin I have found for Joomla.

Just install and select from options of features like automatic image save, and site map.

Pros: easy to install, and use. This plugin allows for fast indexing of my published articles, helping with quick ranking of my pages. If you copy and paste from other site or even link images from other site the "auto save" give you the options of having the plugin automatically save these images locally within a specified folder. Site map works AWESOME! big plus.

Cons: If you're composing or editing an article prepare for a smoke break once you hit apply or the save button. Plugin seem to slow down the save process until it's finished running (sendin pings, creating sites map, and saving images). Though it's only by by seconds this becomes frustrating when creating many articles to publish.

I installed this plugin, and did not make the correlation that my articles began taking up to 20 seconds to save ("waiting for server response"). I went nuts trying to tune Joomla and PHP, only to finally find a post of other users experiencing the same problem after installing Easy Ping. See: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=1970697

Evidentally, the save waits for ping replies before completing the save, which slows article authoring to a crawl! If you disable the plug while authoring, it defeats the whole purpose of the plugin since it only activates on freshly updated content. If the plugin would update the search engines on its own outside of the saving process, it would work a lot better.

Thanks for the review. I'm doing major changes to this plugin right now, to make it do better job.

It's hard to tell that it's working although I'd like it to report something when it runs
Owner's reply

If you want to test that it is working, is very easy. Only check the apache log files for your domain, just after you publish a new content, and you will see that google bot access almost immediatly your sitemap or the new link.

Thank you! In the past I wondered why there was no plugin like this, because wordpress has one.
Owner's reply

Me too :) that's the reason I made this. I love this feature on WP, and also love Joomla! so, this feature is a must.

Well, it appears to work, and installed OK... I do have a question though. Under Ping Services should I not add more URLs, or are three default ones pinging the hundred or so sites as advertised?
Owner's reply

Hi! If you know more ping services, you should add more to it. I only know that ping services, that's the reason I only added them. The pingomatic service says that the ping lot more services, but I don't know for sure, so I added also google :)

Thank's for the coolest PLugin..
It was fetching remote images for new articles was very good and making them local..was Excellent
But small Suggestion... It would be greate if it could also fetch images for old articles..
( like running it once manually..so all the old images become local images.)
here is the link i have tested
Owner's reply

It's good idea, let me check how is the best way to add support for this :)
