J!StatCounter - StatCounter Analytics Module Module

This simple module gives you an easy way to add StatCounter code to your website. www.StatCounter.com offers a free yet reliable invisible web tracker, highly configurable hit counter and real-time detailed web stats. Insert a simple piece of our code on your web page or blog and you will be able to analyse and monitor all the visitors to your website in real-time! GoldFigure uses a mix of Google Analytics and StatCounter on websites. StatCounter gives better real-time results whilst Google Analytics produces more professional looking reports and can be configured to email automatically on a schedule.

Version 1.1 now supports SC4 projects and exit link tracking (only those projects created recently will apply). There is no need to update if you are using StatCounter projects which do not use the sc_click_stat parameter.

UPDATE: jhendric1000 raises a valid point about SSL support, albeit it with a very harsh score because of it. Our module will cause an warning (but will still work) if used on a site with SSL enabled (i.e. uses HTTPS). It does this because one of the elements on the page (namely the statcounter code) is loaded from a non-SSL source (i.e. uses HTTP).

Statcounter do have an SSL enabled counter (http://my5.statcounter.com/support/user/view_knowledge.php?id=93) available to those with an upgraded account. If anyone uses this then please let me know and I may be able to enhance our extension.

Hi,

This is an excellent module. I really appreciate the time and effort put into it.

Cheers,

Hi,

First off, thank you for all of your hard work making this module - it's very useful.

The HTTPS / SSL warning issue happens because StatCounter doesn't offer HTTPS tracking on the free counter. Unfortunately because of cost restraints we currently only offer HTTPS tracking to our upgraded members.

I hope this helps clear things up.

Rory

Hi Rory,

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

UPDATE: StatCounter have been very helpful and provided me with the code format required to support SSL users.

So far only two people (me and one other) have replied to our poll to see how many Joomla / StatCounter users actually use SSL... none.

If this affects you then vote on the poll... http://www.goldfigure.co.uk/index.php/component/option,com_apoll/Itemid,37/id,4/view,apoll/

I had hoped this module would allow me to use StatCounter for an online shop I run using Joomla/Virtuemart, but it causes a security warning in Firefox (same thing happens when you insert the code directly into your template).

Interesting, not thought of that. I'll see if Statcounter offers an HTTPS facility and whether it will be possible to fix.

I would be interested in user feedback through our poll Do you use StatCounter on a secure (HTTPS) site?. With enough reason to do so I will adapt the module.

I had reservations because I like Statcounter to run silently but i soon worked that out.

As the other reviewer said... "Though the input parameters are sort of confusing at first, the tooltips you get when you hover over the text boxes explain everything you need to do."

Works out of the box with just 3 entries of code. Perfect for those of us who have Statcounter accounts. Others sign up is straight forward with no need for conformation email.

Points to note:
* Must be activated to interact with statcounter.

* With Invisible Counter set 'Yes' and Show Title set 'Not' it runs silently. (Even if Statcounter account is configured for type of counter).

* To display the counter you must configure it on the Statcounter site.

I downloaded this extension and used it with a Joomla 1.5 installation and it works brilliantly.
