Google AJAX RSS Module

Editor's Note
  • This extension inserts a backlink to the developer.
[2.5 and 3.0 version now available FREE of cost]

Google AJAX RSS module is based on Google AJAX API and displays RSS feeds using AJAX in a slideshow format. You can use the following styles to display your RSS feeds. In most of the case default style is suitable.

1. Vertical Stacked (Default and Recommended)
2. Vertical (No stacking of feeds)
3. Horizontal

In latest version (1.1), you can also control the CSS to some extent from module and number of feeds has been made configurable from module settings.

If you are using the module in left, right or similar position then use any of the vertical positions. In wide positions like header positions, you may want to try the horizontal position.

Tip: Works and looks best when used within full width article using loadposition directive.

This extension is very good, useful and works almost properly. When it switches from a news to another, the navigation shows this module. I mean, if the module is on the top of the page, and we scroll the page down, when the module refreshes, it scrolls up again.

I have tried others but this one is by far the easiest to use. Only a single issue - I wasn't able to sort the order of multiple feeds. This may be my problem but other than that it is great! Thanks so much.

I'm a bad guy who never post any review on JED, but for this module I must congratulate the developer.
Installation : no problem.
Configuration and customization : easy and fast.
Works perfectly on the first try.
Captures attention while being unobtrusive.
I beg the developer to continue the updates to this extension!
It is FREE for now but I would buy il without hesitation.

This is a great addition to my Jomsocial Site. The feeds display nicely - Works as documented and easy to install and configure. I initially thought there was conflict problem in displaying the feeds with Jomsocial, only on Internet Explorer. However, I found the conflict to be with K2, which I had disabled, but not uninstalled. Sopantech quickly responded to my tech support submissions. I am very pleased with the extension and with support.

Great module. Up and running in a few minutes. Embedding it into an article was a problem from my side, but great support. They solved the problem within minutes.

Keep up the good work! I love this module.

Hi. This works great in Joomla 2.5. Exactly what I need.

First, the RSS is by far the best on the Joomla free extension list and possibly on the open source market. If you are looking a professional team, their support is friendly and timely. Great job!

I like this mod very much. I also would like to add to the number of feeds. I have poked around in gajaxfeeds.php and mod_gajaxfeeds.css, and was able to add a fourth feed, but all I ended up getting displayed was a duplicate feed from the original 3 despite the info in the mod parameters. If someone has a good howto on this it would be much appreciated

Nice looking... very functional... but configuration is very restricted. You cannot change many things without editing the module.

SAlexson could you send this code for making more RSS channels ?? Three is a little to small... I cannot read the code from your review :) Anybody knows the code for increasing the number of RSS channels? I need 10 and even more....
Is there any documentation for editing the module?

I was able to reroute the js file and change the number of articles to retrieve from a feed but what I'm wondering now is how to change the size/ammount of words of that article to be displayed while its in the spot light.

Also would love an update to support images from the feed.

The module was very easy to install, was up and running in a matter of minutes, and does a great job. It seems it is fairly easy to customise certain aspects too. Highly recommended.

This mod is perfect! It adds a nice news display along the top of my site.

I would like to respond to benaam's review concerning a way to change the number of articles retrieved for each feed.

You don't actually need to get a local copy of the js file from Google. You can modify the module code to make this configurable.

In mod_gajaxfeeds.xml:
After line 45, add:

In gajaxfeeds.htm:
After line 63, add:

numResults : get('numResults'); ?>

With these 2 simply changes, the number are articles is now configurable through the module.

Hope this helps anyone else that may want to do this.

As I said before, great mod!

Tried loads of RSS feeds and some had errors some didn't work. This one did. Easy to install, contained working feeds that only needed editing.
Best of the bunch with no problems. Yes it has restrictions and this meant it had to be in a bottom position. Linked the 3 alternative feed sites and it worked flawlessly.

This is a must for any site - just took around an hour to install and get it working on a live site.

keep up the good work.

I love the way this just fit into my site. No mess, no fuss.

I would however like to be able to duplicate the module and have more than one instance of this running on my site, however, when I duplicate it, only the last enabled module displays.

Brilliant extension. Thank you!

Very nice , looks simple and good (more attractive than normal feed layout)

Can I get the code for 10 feeds?
(or can you tell me how to vary the number?, I want 5 and 10 feeds as standard) (also can I vary number of articles in the feed?)
Owner's reply

Thanks for your feedback. The module make use of Google API for displaying the feeds and you need to download a local copy of JavaScripts to change the number of articled shown in each feed. Default is 4 [GFdynamicFeedControl.DEFAULT_NUM_RESULTS = 4;]

As for changing the number of feeds, it can be done in gajaxfeeds.htm file of the module. You need to add code for feeds if you want to add more feeds. You just need to copy paste the code.

Set up in minutes, there are good spots you can use this for a new feed, although it doesn't have a lot of features it works great. Wish you could have more feeds (more than 3)

I'm very happy with this - I've customised it to allow for up to 10 feeds - if you want a copy - just contact me
