JTweet Module

Editor's Note
  • This extension requires registration to download.
JTweet is a port the jquery script developed by Sea of Clouds. It offers a beautiful interface for displaying your twitter tweets in your Joomla site.

V2 update includes the following new features:
* Drag and drop tweet templating.
* New layout options including pagination and scroller.
* New theme options.
* Automatically refresh the tweet stream.
* Intelligent admin interface
* Display retweet, favourite and reply button.
* Open links in a new window

Features include:
* Set the number of tweets to display
* Choose whether to display your avatar or not
* Select whether to display just your tweets or all tweets related to a particular topic
* Select auto join phrases according to the nature of your tweet eg specific intro text for replies, verbs, replying to tweets and more.
* Set the text to appear while the tweets loads.
* Filter your own tweets via keywords. eg only display tweets that contain the word "joomla".

v1.0.2 Now loads the scripts on the fly making the module xhtml compliant. Please note that the module now requires the JB Library plugin in order to work now. The JB Library plugin loads the jQuery library automatically into the head of your template. The jQuery library is required for the jTweets module.

Perfectly fine module, with one exception: Multiple accounts are not supported. Apparently the developer is working on a fix.

This is really great extension! I use it on most complex site i have ever done, with multiple jquery libraries and java scripts. More than this I am running two modules with different settings one same page. They work great! no problems, no conflict. Perfect and it supports all joomla editions. What more can you ask? Great!

Hi, thanks for the effort you put into developing this module. It does the job, after I discovered the need for installing the JB Library Plugin.

I would like to have the possibility of opening a new window when users click on my Twitter links.

Keep up the good work!

Hi,

I have installed this on a few sites which work fine but on one e commerce site it prevented some images loading correctly.

Some images on my home page (virtuemart categories) only loaded when you scrolled to the bottom of the page.

Others were standard custom HTML modules with simple

I usually don't have problems with extensions; and I've learned my lesson about making sure they are enabled after install, setup properly, etc.

Well this time I had issues. I included jQuery as instructed (using a Jumi module) but it still wouldn't work.

After downloading and installing the JB Library Plugin, it worked perfectly. It have a RocketTheme installed and have a pretty advanced site going on; but I was able to overcome my issue with this extra plugin. Just thought I'd mention this for others who might be having issues.

Thanks for the great plugin!

One suggestion I have is the ability to adjust the width of the tweet DIV. Currently it is set to 80%. I changed it to 100% manually via the CSS file to fit my site. Would have been nice to have been able to do that from within the plugin. Also, I changed the order of the module. I put the "follow me" link and bird icon at the top; followed by the actual tweets. Would have been nice to have an option to change that via the plugin page as well. That's all I can think of. Thanks!

Hi,

after trying all other modules, this seems best. But I have two suggestion for improvement:

- if one chooses query mode, the entered search terms should querieded as OR not AND

That would allow to display a morebroad stream of tweets.

- the module stops working, when another plugin has already loaded JQuery.

This is concerning, because a lot of other plugins do so and it is a pain to figure out, when JTweet stops working on article pages. This should really be improved, it is a major disadvantage.

Overall, it is still the best of all other modules.

Best regards,

Thanks for your review. The module only stops working if the other module includes the jQuery library. We created the JB LIbrary plugin to avoid conflicts but it doesnt prevent other developers from creating conflicts by including a reference to the jQuery library and not providing the option to turn it off.

This is the first Twitter module I've found that worked first try. Configuration details are minimal and simple, just don't forget to install the JBLibrary plugin. Easy Peazy.

Looks awesome, thanks guys!

If you only knew how many twitter modules I have used and none could be made to fit in or work properly without throwing errors. I have had JTweets up now and it has performed flawlessly, after a 2 minute install (and that includes the jlibrary plugin) and a few customizations in the backend. A noob's dream...

Excellent module - just what I needed. All the changes that I wanted to make were not possible through the GUI so I simply edited the .js file which worked quite well.

Just a small question - I changed my twitter avatar but the module is somehow still using my old one. (I have deleted the cache and everything). Do you know why this could be the case?

While I find the module to be very well done and the presentation to be good, there is one major drawback to this module. The fact that it requires a library plug-in which I have found frequently conflicts with other modules and components which make use of the JAVA tools already built-in to Joomla 1.5. While the twitter display on the site is "nice" to have, it is not worth breaking other, more critical, features of the site, such as Forums.

Hi thanks for your review. jTweet and JB Library wont actually conflict with other javascripts because they use jQuery running in no conflict mode and they work perfectly fine with the Joomla core mootools scripts. Where you will run into trouble is if the jQuery library itself is called from another script, module or component and then the solution is to remove the second instance of the jQuery library but there is no inherent conflict with core Joomla scripts.

Very nice extension but keep in mind that you have to install at the same time the JB plugin that you can find at http://www.joomlabamboo.com/downloads/view-document-details/224-jb-library-plugin. I spent lot of time before understanding this point!!

I initially had a hard time getting this to work, but that was because I was using a third party template without installing the JB LIbrary plugin. Once I installed the plugin everything worked great. I didn't even have to do any additional styling. It looks and works perfectly even with a third party template.

My only suggestion is that it should be written to work with Mootools, since that is what will be built in to future versions of Joomla.

Skinable à volonté grâce à l'import de la feuille de style, adaptable à volonté grâce aux requêtes intégrées, ce module est idéal pour mon site.
Il ne lui manque peut-être qu'une gestion du cache pour être parfait.

Fantastic extension! I've ben struggling with many solutions to add a Twitter feed to my website and JTweet is the best one so far. The only change I made was on the CSS file - to make the font sans serif (which was also surprisingly simple to do). Thanks to the developers for giving us this great extension for FREE

I needed a way to communicate my twitter.com updates and this simple yet powerful module allowed me to have this happening in less than 5 minutes.

I didn't want to display my avatar so simply set the avatar size to 0 and instantly it was not being displayed. Just what I needed.

Thanks for a great module to help me use the twitter services better.

jTweet is just great. Perfect styling through a seperate CSS file to get the design neatly integrated in your template and even better: great support from the developers at Joomla Bamboo.

They reacted instantly on a Saturday and Sunday to help make jTweet XHTML compliant.

Just follow these simple steps:
1. Add to the section of your template HTML.
2. Delete from the mod_jTweet.php file in the module directory (somewhere around line 45).

Tip hat and all thumbs up!
