This module is FREE to use at your disposal.
To get started just download and install the module via your joomla installer. Then modify the parameters in the module manager. Add your social media profile URLs. Any URL fields left empty simply won't display that icon link.
Version 1.6 Changelog
* Now provides the option for additional icon themes
* New themes are available for download
* Fixed typo for RSS Feed link
* Provides option to properly disable the friendly backlink
Version 1.5.11 Changelog:
* Fixed typo for W3C validation
Version 1.5.10 Changelog:
* Completely recoded for better performance and cleaner output
* Changed from list format to allow easier CSS styling
* Added Icon alignment parameter
* Added CSS Tooltips
* Ability to modify the Tooltip text in the parameters
* You can now change the order of the icons
* Ability to easily add your own icons
The module does what it says, but the configuration is tedious. It requires specific links for all social networks, so for example to include a digg icon you must also include a digg link.
This module DOES NOT include any hidden links. There is a link that can be disabled from the module parameters.
"Show friendly link?" Y/N
Please test the module before posting incorrect information on reviews.
Thanks,
Viper
My suggestion to the author is rename the attribute because it is causing undue problems.
I did get it to work on my Rockettheme template with no issues.
I removed its hidden link to their website.
It works, so I can't completely slam them for the hidden link.
The new version provides the option to disable the link properly from the module manager. I welcome you to try out the new version and let us know what you think.
But the worst thing is the hidden backlink to the author's website. The link is surrounded by the author's keywords. Terrible for SEO since your site WILL get penalized for any hidden link. It's unethical and should not be there. The author doesn't even tell you about it (unless I missed it).
Everyone should avoid this one as there are many very good mods like this out there... one's that don't try to fool you and cause your site to be hit with penalties from Google.
Terrible... just terrible!!!
As mentioned in my responses below. There was a small bug in the code for the RSS Feed link. It has been resolved in the new release. As far as the link, the intent was not to fool anyone, many FREE extensions include links back to their website, however, the new release provides an option to disable it properly from the module manager.
Once again, if you ever have an issue with one of our extensions, please contact our support team so it can be resolved right away.
Not sure what type of code is used here but beware because it breaks several browsers. So if you are having this same problem, disable this module first and you will solve your problem. Or better yet, don't use this at all until the developer tests his code.
I am one VERY UNHAPPY customer.
I apologize for the inconvenience. It turns out there was a typo in the code for the RSS Feed link. A very simple fix but unfortunately it wasn't brought to our attention until yesterday. If you ever find a bug, please report it to our support so we can resolve it right away.
We have released a new version than now validates W3C with the RSS Feed link. I welcome you to give the module another try.
Don't think this is a problem? Well it is. It's unethical. And search engines like Google can and do penalise websites for hidden links. My advice, don't use this extension unless you edit the PHP code to remove the hidden link. Thankfully, this is relatively easy to do. But it really shouldn't be there in the first place.
You brought up a good point. Many FREE extensions include a link back to their site as this one did, however, the link should not have been hidden via CSS. The new version has an option to properly disable it from the module manager.
I hope this resolves any issues you had with the module.
