This is en excellent FREE menu-creating system.

Whatever your menu plans, it can make it happen for you.
It's all there, horizontal-vertical, fading-sliding,
drop down-tree structures, images on items,
you name it. With enugene you can create fairly easily menus that untill now Flash was the way to go.
The only drawback for someone may be that you have to spend some time learning the software.
The developer is very friendly and has answered to all my emails very promptly.
This is a *classic* 5 star extension.

This menu is indeed unique, but I wish I had written samples on "how to" make different kinds of menus. Documentation is there, but not sufficiently detailed. I managed to make a menu after experimenting on my own, but it messed up the layout of the page. I am working on trying to fix that.

I am looking forward to future releases. If developed further and polished - this software will be the only one you need. It would be great to have a community forum on this one. I'd be a volunteer to moderate such a forum for sure. I am sure that there are other people like me that would support this software as well. I can even provide some temporary space for such a forum.

As it is now - it is THE most powerful free menu-software out - I recommend it - if you have the patience to learn by yourself.

This is an excellent menu system.
It lets you modify just about everyting, although its pretty complex to learn, and there are some workflow issues with ssome very simple changes needing updates from different tabs. despite this i gave it an excellent rating because i have found nothing else like it.

There is a warning however, I got this working perfectly on my old site under 5.10, and worked fine even after an update. On another site it will not install and throws back an error. Waiting for reply from the creator.

Honestly, I have never seen anything like this in a CMS.

Especially the different ways to work with this extension convinced me to use it.
Thats just what I needed for my customers.
I was searching for a long time for a tool like this so that I can easily respond to all of my customers requests.

All in all I can say, that this tool is most ideal for professionals.

I rated it 5*'s, because I think that even if you need some knowledge for it, it is the best tool in its category.

Waiting for more versions to come.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot!

This is an excellent menu system if you can understand how to use it.
Sure I could publish the menu to the top (user3) of of the default milkway template but only in the default horizontal position it installs as.
Try figure making this a horizontal menu!
I tried for over ten hours.
Read the website docs, (as cryptic as the menu control).
If you have programming knowledge you will have no problem.
I rated this as good because it obviously is.
I could not rate it as excellent because you really do need to have an above average knowledge of web design to use this.
I have kept this in my install but have disabled it for now in the vain hope I will find out exactly how to use it.
Basically install this and if you understand the interface then fine you have a great menu system.
If you don't understand the interface then forget it. The website will not help you either, you go backwards and forwards, around and around until you are dizzy.
This module really needs a forum. Better still an English How To step by step downloadable guide.

Hi Able,

thank You for Your very friendly comment on my enuGene extension section at Joomla! org.

I see the problem and with the new release I try a approach to it. The 0.9.8.4-beta release has got a complete new import interface. With this it is now possible to import commented and structured themes.

This files (for milkyway is already one file accessibly) may become something like mikro tutorials.

At the moment (the new installer still does not import this files) You will need to download them, unzip and copy them to the enuGene admin/com_enugene/backup folder. Then import them. The installer import comes with the 0.9.8.5-beta version.

On monday 05-25-2009 there will sure be technical theme design files for the beez, milkyway and JA Purity templates accessibly.

The last enuGene version had still a few bugs, this one were confusing:
1) The multilanguage translations were switched off.
2) Within the 'Builder' 'Modules' tab it was possible to assign a enuGene module twice - this causes severe problems and the user cannot notice them.

Next the thing with the forum:

I also would like to find more enuGene question in any forums. But i cannot open a forum, because do not have the time to moderate it, even as the enuGene program changes still to fast. But i see also, that a enuGene forum would bring up much more interests and also more information.

o.k. thats it - if You like You can test the new enuGene version; the download is accessible on the enuGene homepage download page.

At the moment i createn the demo themes and don't find any severe errors any more. It should work.

Maybe i switch the Joomla! extension download link on monday too - depending how far the help pages will be updated then.

I created an extension account just to vote for this module!
It's the best menu module I've tested when it comes to dropdown menus and the only one I really use.
There are many things you can customize, especially since version 0.9.8.

Though you have to keep in mind that this is still experimental and that the latest build might contain errors or bugs. Sometimes it's better to use a previous version and wait for a stable update.

But anyway, this is one VERY nice and very powerful module. I highly recommend you to test it!

Don't be scared by the many options though, just start playing with them slowly and you'll quickly get a hang of things.
Also you'll see it's very reliable both in IE and FF, which is rather rare these days...
With a few weeks using EnuGene, I can now setup a complex menu in a matter of minutes. I totally LOVE it!

One last thing, you can't say all what is possible with EnuGene, playing with the parameters you might discover new and incredible ways to use it!

Thanks for this great tool!

After downloading and trying 11 different Joomla menu extensions, this one has got my vote. You can customize font colors and backgrounds. You can setup the dimensions of the parent and sub-menu items. You can even add icons to the menu items.

Thank you so much for the extension. It just saved me a lot of time not having to search for a menu with dropdown capabilities for Joomla 1.5.
