Superfish Dropdown Menu Popular Module

If you have questions or problems, please post them to the support forum.

"Superfish is an enhanced
Suckerfish-style menu jQuery plugin
that takes an existing pure CSS
drop-down menu (so it degrades
gracefully without JavaScript) and adds
many features."

I took Superfish and combined it with a
menu module to easily create and
manipulate dropdown menus. Comes with
many configuration options such as
shadows, arrows, vertical menu,
horizontal menu, navbar menu, iframe
for IE6 use, fade in, slide in, fade
and slide in, opacity, intelligent
mouseover handling, and more.

http://users.tpg.com.au/j_birch/plugins/superfish

In version 1.2 I have added my own Superfish plugin to the mix, which allows you to specify a menu width (exact or percent) and have the menu items automatically resize to fit.

Disclaimer:
If you plan on using this module, you should be comfortable editing css. It would also help to be familiar with Superfish, but not required. This module simply combines superfish with the main menu and automates the setup configuration. It is intended for developers who know their way around code. If you are a novice and need a highly customized look to the menu, this one may not be for you.

By far the easiest and most effective menu module I've seen - and I've tried many!

I've used for horizontal and vertical and it's awesome! No errors, no modifying to get it to work. The only thing to change is the parameters and the CSS to match the design - very easy!

Two thumbs up! The instructions are clear. Thus, easy to follow. :)

I am new to Joomla! and everything seemed easy to pick up except drop down menus. But this module makes adding drop downs a breeze. Thanks for creating it! I've tried other drop down modules but styling them was very difficult, but superfish is pretty straight forward. This is an A++++ module and really enhances what you can do with Joomla!
That is exactly what I was banging my head about.
What menu to add to my website. I used transmenu, but I think that developer stopped working on it, and now THIS!

Thank you for releasing this module in public - free use!
Love this extension, have implemented on a few sites no problems. But having z-index issue in IE on one site and noticed the forum is not very active, and lack of support, 1 view in 2 days. Maybe I need to wait longer...I am also willing to Donate for a quick fix as I mentioned in my forum post.
Downloaded, installed, used... just that simple! It was as easy as disabling the current menu and enabling Superfish. I had to change module positions from left to user3 for the horizontal option (specific to the template) and it simply worked! Well done... and BTW, editing CSS isn't really so difficult that non-developers (that's me) can't easily figure it out!
i install the extension, when i use it for virtical style working very good, but when i use it in horizontal style its not work, i do view source for my page and i found css class named sf-horizontal but when i search on all css i found it for the extension, i am not found this class, i hope to fix this problem, or give us the solution for this problem.

thanks

Awesome job Cy!

Depending on the template you use, you may have to add style="overflow: visible;" to the container of the menu to avoid cropping

Really great plugin and thanks for making my life so much easier.
I just have one problem, and it´s kinda irritating. When I use any of the "fade in" animation presets for the dropdown-menu, it doesnt work in Explorer 8. It´s just appearing with an ugly flick. No fading or sliding. When I just choose "slide in" it works great but i guess it´s something with the opacitysettings for IE8. Works great in all the other browsers though. Thanks again.

This is really an amazing plugin.. thank you very much.. if you are familiar with joomla and css, it's a piece of cake. No need to be an expert but at least know the basic foundation.

This is an awesome menu.

Like most others... the issue I faced was that it worked perfectly in FF but not in IE.

Correcting the z-index worked perfectly.

added the z-index to the following:
.sf-menu li
.sf-menu li li
.sf-menu li li li
.sf-menu a

Just to be sure I also added the z-index: 1; to the topmenu (where I was using it) and a x-indez: -1; to the table just below it.

This is an awesome menu...
Hi, I love this module and think it's the best and easiest to install. However I have a problem removing the menu separator that creates top and left border. How do I do it?

One of the best menu systems I have found for Joomla 1.5 .... it works excellent in Firefox and IE>=7, BUT... unfortunately in IE6 the submenu does not at all appear (no overlap effect due to css, just nothing happens on mouseover effect :-(
This flaw makes it hard for me to use this menu unless there is some workaround - many users are still using IE6, so the menu has to work properly... Maybe someone can help ?
I just tried the superfish and simply it is one of the best extensions I've ever used. Especially, I like the configuration options at the back end as well as the unlimited potential to customize the way it looks like at the front end --- thru tailoring CSS file....

During the test-driving, I noticed, likely as many other superfish users, that Superfish dropdown menu works perfectly with Firefox and Chrome, but not IE. As mentioned at Superfish's official homepage (http://users.tpg.com.au/j_birch/plugins/superfish/#faq), it is a IE z-index bug and there is nothing wrong with Superfish itself. In order to fix this IE bug, I've tried the recommended solution (http://webdemar.com/webdesign/superfish-jquery-menu-ie-z-index-bug/) but it didn't work with my case. However, I did find out a simple work-around, which might be similar to the solution quoted above, to fix the IE z-index problem: Add z-index properties to [.sf-menu li] and [.sf-menu a] in the superfish.css file as examplified below. In this way, no other changes need to be made to your index.php under /template folder. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks again for Cy Morris's great job!

Cheers

It is true there is a bit of a learning curve with this one, but it really is the best option out there if you want to be able to do whatever you want. Other modules might be easier, but they are limited. There are no limits with this one - I highly recommend it.
The menu module is easy to instal and set up but it has some advance settings too.
But the best part of this extension is support. Cy (developer) is fast and right on a money, actually he is better than the money, as this is a free extensions :-)

Thank you so much!
This module was SUPER EASY to install and SUPER EASY to set up. I did encounter an issue with IE, but Cy (the author) was right on top of it, and responded quickly and accurately to help me fix the issue, which was with IE, and not the extension.

Super Job and thanks!

I downloaded and installed the menu. Swapped over an existing main_menu to use it. Took about 4 minutes. It worked straight away. The menu had placeholders and single level of menus under them. Everything was as I expected. Very nice!

When I try to run a second copy of the module, there seem to be problems interacting with the first one, but I have done no investigating of this so far as (currently) one module is okay for me.

Now I am going to snoop around "playing" with the CSS but I did not need to do this to make it work and the existing colour scheme is close to what I want anyway.

Well done and thanks!

Dave
I'm sure this is very "Easy" for developers. I wasted a lot of time trying to understand it. Obviously there needs to be a REAL TUTORIAL, not a few pages of hints and tips.

The so-called Plugin is an assortment of files with no explanation of what to do with them or where to put them. I am not a stupid person, so I'm offended that this is presented as EASY when there's no real documentation for it. You MUST have background experience with Suckerfish in order to "Get it."
Owner's reply

This is a module... you install it... via the install screen in your Joomla administration. You simply point the installer to the zip file, Joomla does the rest.

You set the menu up just the same as you would a normal menu, via the Module Manager. As for styling the menu beyond what is presented in the module screen, yes, you do need to have experience with CSS. Experience with Superfish/Suckerfish is helpful but not required.

I am more than happy to help anyone with questions or problems they may have; all they need do is ask (via the support forum or email).

I thank you for your comment and have placed a disclaimer in the module description.
